Declan Gallagher played his part in helping Scotland reach a first major tournament sinceĀ 1998 last week.
The centre-back played the entirety of the play-off win over Serbia, helping thwart the threat of Fulham’sĀ Aleksandar Mitrovic in the process.
Gallagher’s display in Belgrade came in for plenty of praise from Scotland fans, with one describing his recent rise to the top as ‘immense‘.
Meanwhile, several Celtic supporters also took to social media, admitting they’d be keen to see the 29-year-old arrive at Parkhead, with one labelling the Motherwell man ‘better’Ā than Shane Duffy.
Gallagher’s Fir Park deal actually expires at the end of the season, and we feel that Celtic should be doing everything they can to bring the player to Celtic Park in January.
With the towering centre-back only having six months left on his contract, the Hoops are in a perfect position to land the defender for a cut-price fee.
Duffy, who arrived from Brighton over the summer, has been extremely shaky in recent weeks, with his displays coming in for criticism from several Hoops fans.
The Irishman isn’t looking like the marquee defender Neil Lennon was after and was even dropped for the game againstĀ Gallagher’s Motherwell prior to the international break.
He’s also only on loan, so looking past the current campaign,Ā Gallagher may prove to be Duffy’s successor.
Gallagher actually recorded a better WhoScored match rating than Kristoffer Ajer and made more tackles than Nir Bitton in the 4-1 win for the Hoops at Fir Park.
We feel that chief executive Peter Lawwell can redeem himself over Duffy’s questionable summer move by landingĀ Gallagher for next to nothing in the New Year.
