Gianluca Di Marzio is one of the top European journalists and the Italian has provided an exciting update on the future of Diego Laxalt.

The Uruguayan, who joined from AC Milan on deadline day for the season, netted his first Hoops goal in the 2-2 draw with Hibernian on Saturday.

His late strike salvaged a point for Neil Lennon’s side, with Di Marzio addressing the left-back’s future hours after the final whistle at Easter Road.

He claimed that his stay at Parkhead may not be just temporary, adding that Celtic’s Europa League clash with AC Milan on December 3 could be the right opportunity to ‘set up the operation’ and start negotiations.

Considering there was no option-to-buy fee in Laxalt’s loan deal, this update from Di Marzio is, in our view, an exciting one.

The Italian has claimed there is a chance Laxalt’s Celtic Park stay won’t be temporary, with several Hoops fans wanting the South American signed in recent weeks.

Should Celtic look to make Laxalt's deal permanent in January?

Yes

No, wait til the summer

Laxalt has been one of the few shining lights for Celtic since his arrival. Unfortunately, the Hoops have won just once in the Premiership and Europa League with the 27-year-old in the starting line-up.

He’s averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.07 in green and white, so managing to secure his services on a permanent basis could be an excellent move by the club.
