Celtic fans react as Rodgers opens door for Benkovic return

Brendan Rodgers has opened the door for Filip Benkovic to seal a Parkhead return, and the former Celtic manager’s comments have got many Hoops fans talking.

The 23-year-old had his Cardiff City loan spell cut short on Wednesday after making just one Championship appearance in Wales.

The news left the Hoops on alert regarding the centre-back, who turned out 27 times for Celtic in a season-long loan in 2018 under Rodgers and current boss Neil Lennon.

Benkovic is thought to be open to a return north this month, with Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph revealing on Friday afternoon that talks have opened over a possible deal.

Rodgers, talking to the media on Thursday, addressed the chances of Benkovic making the move back to Celtic Park.

It’s certainly a possibility. It’s a huge club and he did very well there. We haven’t had any contact but he’s back now and we will see what happens.

Celtic would be a great move for him. He’s at the age where he really needs to be playing and that didn’t quite materialise at Cardiff
