Celtic watch reported target Declan Gallagher on the weekend

Reports last week claimed that Motherwell’s Declan Gallagher is looking to push through a move to Celtic.

The Hoops are thought to be monitoring the 29-year-old, who is also wanted by Aberdeen, Blackburn Rovers and Hibernian.

And now, according to the Scottish Sun, Celtic recruitment chief Nick Hammond watched Gallagher in action during Motherwell’s 1-1 draw at St Mirren on the weekend.

The Athletic’s Kieran Devlin confirmed the trip during a Q&A session with Celtic supporters following the 1-1 draw with Hibs on Monday.

Gallagher recorded a solid 6.80 WhoScored rating on Saturday, making four interceptions, two clearances and blocking two shots.

Several Celtic fans wanted the club to move for the centre-back before the links emerged this month after he helped Scotland to the European Championships.

So, they’ll more than likely be delighted that the club has appeared to step up their interest in Gallagher by sending Hammond to run the rule over the defender.

Lennon is keen to land an experienced central defender this month, and Gallagher, a boyhood Hoops fan, would certainly fit the bill.

He’s made over 100 Scottish Premiership appearances, and should he join, you’d expect him to be in with a real chance of nailing down a starting spot in Lennon’s side, especially following Christopher Julllien’s latest injury set back.
