Plenty of Celtic fans have been reacting to comments from Hoops favourite Stiliyan Petrov regarding the Parkhead managerial hot-seat.

The 41-year-old cult hero has called for a change in Glasgow and has backed former Celtic midfielder Roy Keane to take over.

Neil Lennon appears to be under pressure as Celtic manager after a disappointing campaign. The Hoops are currently 21 points behind Rangers at the top of the Premiership and have also been dumped out of the Europa League and Scottish League Cup prior to the New Year.

Petrov, who won eight major honours with the Hoops across a seven-year stay at the club, was talking on The Celtic Huddle podcast, cited by the Daily Record.

The Bulgarian was asked by Mark Wilson if he agreed with John Hartson after the Welshman called for his former Hoops teammate to be removed as soon as possible and said:

Yeah I think so. Now it comes to the point where Celtic have to make the change in approach and I think a new manager has to come in with his staff.

A leader, somebody who can lead the team in a different direction and who can motivate and change the style of play. What we have seen, and it’s just in my opinion, is that Celtic are still trying to play the football we have seen under Brendan Rodgers.

Petrov continued and mentioned Keane as a potential replacement for Lennon.

What a name to come up for the job. I think Roy’s name has been mentioned a couple of years ago. To be honest it’s something that is needed.

Does Roy go head to head with Steven Gerrard and compete with the same intensity and desire? Yes he does. Is he going to be somebody the Celtic fans would like to see in charge? Yes I think so. Would I look forward to it? Yes. Would that fire get back into the Celtic players again? I think it would.

Here is what these Celtic supporters had to say to the Daily Record’s official social media post to the story.

Would you take Keane at Celtic?

Yes
