Peter Lawwell will retire from his position as Celtic chief executive at the end of June, the club have confirmed this morning. As to be expected, the breaking news had plenty of Hoops fans talking on social media.
The 61-year-old joined the club in 2003, with the Hoops winning 29 trophies during that time.
Lawwell has been criticised by numerous Celtic supporters recently following the club’s warm-weather training camp trip to Dubai which ended in chaos. A plethora of first team stars, along with management duo Neil Lennon and John Kennedy, missed two league games due to isolation protocols following Christophe Jullien’s positive test result.
That episode was most unwelcome in a season which has seen the Hoops fall embarrassingly off the pace behind Rangers in the pursuit of the Premiership title.
Lawwell’s association with the Hoops will end in the summer, with Dominic McKay becoming his successor. McKay has been with Scottish Rugby for 13 years and was promoted to chief operating officer back in 2015.
