St Johnstone 1-2 Celtic: Player ratings as Edouard fires Hoops to victory

A spell of individual brilliance from Odsonne Edouard secured all three points for Celtic in a tightly-contested match in Perth this afternoon.
St Johnstone took the lead five minutes into the second-half after Callum Booth’s cross found the head of Shaun Rooney. The striker had both Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor marking him, but neither could apply pressure or prevent Rooney from opening the scoring; a disappointing passage of play with which we should’ve dealt much better. Their goal was the first they’ve scored against us at McDiarmid Park in their last seven attempts (Soccerbase).
Their lead proved to be short-lived. The visitors pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded for their efforts 10 minutes later. Ryan Christie spotted Edouard striding into the danger area; the Frenchman’s body was positioned awkwardly, but that didn’t stop him from connecting with the cross sweetly and pulling his side level.

Celtic upped the tempo in hopes of finding another goal, with that moment coming soon after their equaliser. Christie was involved again, this time with a dummy to allow Taylor to get into a threatening position down the left flank. His low-driven cross found Edouard, who danced around the Saints defence and made no mistake in slotting it past Zander Clark; two goals in two minutes for the Frenchman. Magnifique.
The game certainly sprung to life in the second half, but it was a similar performance to others we’ve seen recently. I wasn’t so sure if we had it in us to come from a goal down and win, but two moments of individual brilliance from Eddy saved our Sunday from catastrophe.
