Celtic loanee and Uruguay international Diego Laxalt has made an important clarification over a potential leak he previously made.
The Hoops full-back had previously claimed that Eddie Howe was set to be appointed as Celtic manager following a nonchalant response to a fan-submitted question during a streaming session of popular online game Fortnite.
The 28-year-old could be heard reading a question in the stream’s accompanying fan chat channel that said: “Diego you met Eddie Howe yet?”
After a brief pause, the on-loan AC Milan player responded “No no no, tomorrow,” implying that the squad was due to meet the tactician that has been heavily linked with the vacant Celtic job in recent weeks.
However, the Bhoys man was soon alerted to the stir he caused on social media when the seemingly confirmatory clip was circulated widely.
In messages obtained via the Scottish Sun, Laxalt moved to light-heartedly quash the claims in a conversation with one Celtic fan page that circulated the viral clip.
Laxalt cleared up his miscommunication, claiming that he thought the question was in reference to Celtic’s star striker Odsonne Edouard, who is often referred to as Eddy or French Eddy by Celtic fans.
The defender consequentially asked for the clip to be removed:
“I only read the first part!”, claimed Laxalt.
“I thought you were talking about Eddy (Odsonne Edouard) because many in the chat write Eddy.
“If you can delete the video I would be grateful.”

A false alarm from Laxalt and a minor miscommunication will do little to prevent the rumour mill from spinning.
Fresh claims have emerged since the comment that Eddie Howe is doing his due diligence on the club in what is certain to accelerate – rather than de-escalate – rumours that Eddie Howe could be on his way to Glasgow in the near future.
