Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has affirmed his fondness for the club by taking to social media to reference Celtic fans.

Dembele lifted the La Liga title on Sunday when Atletico Madrid came from behind to seal a 2-1 win over Real Valladolid – a result that mathematically ensured that local rivals Real Madrid could not pip them to silverware.

Dembele joined Diego Simeone’s side on a six-month loan deal in the January transfer window but has yet to score in the Spanish top flight for the newly-crowned champions.

Joining from French side Lyon with a view to signing permanently, his lack of incisive form has left question marks as to whether he will seal a permanent switch to the Spanish capital – but Dembele was nonetheless jubilant at his side’s achievement.

The striker – who is an SPFL invincible treble winner – took to Twitter to thank Celtic fans after the striker was washed away by positive messages from Celtic fans.

It seems the love between the fans and the player himself is reciprocated.

Dembele managed 51 goals and 18 assists in just 94 outings for the club in what represents a phenomenally productive spell in Glasgow.

Evidently, such a dominant record is sure to tug at the heartstrings of ardent Hoops fans who will look back in fondness at Dembele’s time at Parkhead.

Interestingly, the club also has a vested financial interest in Dembele’s performances.

Celtic inserted a 10% sell-on clause when the Frenchman joined Lyon for £20 million in 2018, meaning there is scope for future revenues for the club if Atletico opt to sign Dembele permanently.
