A-league coach Ross Aliosi has spoken glowingly of Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, opening up on the possibility of making a switch to Glasgow in the process.

Currently plying his trade with Adelaide United in Australia, the 48-year-old former midfielder discussed a potential backroom staff role at Parkhead as he confirmed talks with his agent.

“All I can really tell you is that I spoke to my agent, Frank Trimboli, two days ago, but that’s about it,” he admitted to Australian TV programme The Real Football Show [via The Herald].

Aliosi has a degree of history in working with Postecoglou, having also confessed to remaining in contact with his former colleague.

The pair briefly worked together at Brisbane Roar, with Aliosi’s coaching experience remaining rooted in Australian football. He also boasts a CV with experience in both the men’s and women’s game.

“I know Ange reasonably well and have kept in contact with him over the years as well. But I think my focus is the task in hand and that’s a game against Sydney FC at the weekend.

“Everyone wants to work with Ange. I spent a bit of time with him up in Brisbane when he first started coaching the Brisbane Roar, the first season that they won the championship.”

However, Aliosi cooled any suggestion that he could be Glasgow-bound imminently:

“Look, everyone wants to go to Europe and coach, but the reality is that there are obstacles that you have to cross and it’s not my main focus at the moment.

“Like I said, I would love, like everyone else, to go to Europe and coach but we have a big game coming up and we want to give it our best shot.”

No

Although Celtic fans will be voraciously looking out for transfer movements, backroom changes are likely to feature over the summer too.

Bringing in trusted ex-colleagues could be one avenue Postecoglou and the club opts for, and names such as Aliosi’s could be ones to watch in the coming months.
