talkSPORT pundit and out-of-contract Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has declared his stance on Celtic when quizzed about a hypothetical move to Glasgow.

The forward, who will be a free agent in July, has previously revealed he has a number of offers abroad on the table – though he has also indicated he could be open to a Palace stay.

A vast core of the Palace squad was out of contract alongside Townsend, with the Premier League club also scrambling to appoint a manager.

The 29-year-old is taking a broad view in assessing his future options and showed an open mind to a Celtic move when asked.

He was prompted by his Scottish punditry partner Jim White on air who referenced Celtic alongside arch-rivals Rangers.

Speaking to talkSPORT (21/6/21, 12pm via HITC) the England international claimed:

“I’m open to everything,” Townsend said when asked about a potential move to Ibrox or Parkhead.

“If there’s an option that presents itself and it’s the best one for me and fulfils my needs, I wouldn’t turn it down just because it’s in another country.”

The former Newcastle and Spurs ace managed just a lone goal in 34 Premier League appearances last season (against Manchester United) and a further 5 assists.

Townsend chose a relatively cautious approach to the question, though it is telling that he stopped short of ruling out a move north of the border.

Should Celtic sign Townsend?

Yes

No

Townsend clearly has an open mind and a lucrative contract offer could be tempting.

Given his Premier League wages, a Parkhead deal would likely be with a view to making Townsend the club’s first-choice right-sided option.
