Celtic could be dealt an unlikely Champions League boost thanks to newly promoted Premier League side Brentford.
The west London side, known for their intelligent data-driven recruitment, have a long history of successful talent-spotting.
The likes of Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbuemo are just some notable talents signed cheaply that have thrived for the Bees, all of whom will have had Premier League experience by the end of next season.
The Bees’ drive for shrewd signings has led them to Nigeria international Frank Onyeka, a defensive midfielder for sister club FC Midtjylland.
As noted by Celtic fan page Everything Celtic (@aboutceltic) on Twitter, that could provide an unlikely boost for Celtic.
The page shared a Twitter transfer update from Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas that confirmed the Bees are ‘in talks’ and are ‘closing in’ on the one-cap Nigeria midfielder as their first senior summer signing.
With Brentford and Midtjylland sharing an owner, the financial agreement between the clubs is expected to be a formality.
From Celtic’s perspective, the two clubs meet in the second qualifying round of the Champions League and a move for Onyeka would take away a hard-working enforcer from the Danish side.

In the words of Everything Celtic, the news is ‘huge’ for the Bhoys and Onyeka is one of Midtjylland’s ‘best players’.
The update could therefore leave a direct rival to group stage qualification needing to scramble to fill a void in the squad.
With the first leg less than a month away, both clubs will be counting in weeks – not in the long run – until their squads need to be up to scratch.
