A long-term suitor for Celtic ace Odsonne Edouard in Crystal Palace are stepping up their interest, according to a Tweet from Ed Aarons of The Guardian.

As shared by Everything Celtic (@aboutceltic) on Twitter, the 23-year-old Hoops hitman is widely expected to depart the club this summer with his contract due to expire in less than twelve months.

The ex-PSG youngster is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-Scottish club in January but is still being afforded a role in Ange Postecoglou’s squad following an appearance in Celtic’s 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland.

Crystal Palace have been linked with Edouard for many windows, and the appointment of compatriot Patrick Vieira has seen the Eagles accelerate their transfer plans.

The Eagles have already signed youngsters Marc Guehi and Michael Olise, with Vieira identifying the Frenchman as an important target to compete with the likes of the more experienced Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Interestingly, Palace have also appointed ex-PSG coach Said Aigoun as the club’s development coach with the specific job of integrated young and/or academy talent into the first team.

Aigoun previously worked with Edouard to architect his breakthrough with the French giants.

Palace’s French connections with Aigoun and Vieira could be instrumental in giving the Eagles an edge over other competitors in the race for Edouard’s signature.

Previous talks with another Premier League side in Leicester City broke down.

Should Edouard be sold for the same as Ajer, £13.5m?

As much as Celtic will be keen to leverage as much as possible for their star asset they will not want a situation in which he waives the club’s ability to command a fee in January.

Palace have proven they have funds to spend this window and both parties would look to strike a balance between value and compromise.
