New Bhoy Jota has spoken of his affinity with Celtic following a previous experience with Benfica in his unveiling press conference.

As shared on Twitter by popular Celtic fan account Everything Celtic (@aboutceltic), the Benfica loanee was discussing a scarf-swapping experience when discussing the stature of the club.

Speaking articulately in perfect English, Jota reminisced about a time in which the Portuguese Benfica product exchanged scarves in a Champions League match with Celtic supporters and has held a keen interest in the club since.

The winger even claimed he still has his Celtic scarf from that game back at his home in Portugal as a reminder of the occasion.

Jota completed a season-long loan switch to Scotland on deadline day, joining fellow loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers (on loan from Spurs) and permanent signing Giorgos Giakoumakis in completing late moves.

The 22-year-old winger spent last season on loan in La Liga with Spanish side Real Valladolid, scoring one goal in seventeen appearances.

Celtic also have the option of making the deal permanent in the summer for a fee believed by Sky Sports to be just over £6m.

Having a pre-established affinity with the club bodes well for the future.

Will Jota hit 10 goals this season?

Jota cut the mould of a figure well-versed with the club and his articulate English could also play a role in helping him to settle and gel quickly.

His La Liga record is far from mouth-watering, but his enthusiastic attitude desire to impress could yet buoy him to a more successful spell in Scottish football.
