Following Celtic’s impressive 2-0 win in the Europa League, one rival fan has courted controversy by taking to social media with a curious opinion.

Twitter user @andybearz, a diehard Rangers fan with a timeline to suit, tweeted “And another thing .. Furahashi (sic) is twice the striker Morelos is There I said it “ in the wake of Celtic’s much-needed continental triumph.

The Japan international opened the scoring for Celtic after latching on to a deftly struck long-ranged pass from Benfica loanee Jota, whose pinpoint passing ensured his teammate was played in on goal to slot coolly past the Bhoys’ Hungarian opponents.

However, the Tweet is particularly controversial given the obvious rivalry between Celtic and Rangers – not least the proposition that Rangers’ star Colombian hitman Alfredo Morelos is inferior to Celtic’s Japanese counterpart.

Celtic fans will be all-too aware of the versatile attacker’s quality and what he can provide to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Is Furuhashi better than Morelos?

Yes

No

It is refreshing that one fan can see beyond the rivalry in order to appreciate the quality offered by the striker, but even so, it is still eyebrow-raising that a Rangers fan would so willingly snub their own star player in favour of their nemesis’ counterpart.

Joint with David Turnbull, Furuhashi continues to lead Celtic in the SPFL in terms of the club’s top scorers and despite having gone a few games without netting for the Bhoys, he is regularly finding form on the European stage – and that comes having been out for the best part of a month through injury.
