One Celtic fan page has named an emerging star at Celtic that is increasingly catching attention as Ange Postecoglou integrates him into first-team plans.

Greece international Giorgos Giakoumakis made waves when he arrived on deadline day as the Dutch top division’s top scorer with VVV Venlo, despite his side’s untimely relegation at the end of last season.

He has yet to make a start for the club but came on for the second half in Tuesday afternoon’s Europa League win and made quite the impression in the process.

The physicality of the striker helped keep the pressure off Celtic towards the end of the game in a hard-working, dogged and team-orientated display.

He appears to offer a different sort of striker to Ange Postecoglou – one that works from the front and is not afraid of using his physicality to complement different options such as Kyogo Furuhashi.

Popular Celtic fan account Everything Celtic (@aboutceltic) took to Twitter to deliver a verdict on the Greek striker and what he can offer Celtic:

“This is a player we’ve been crying out for for quite some time. A calming influence in the final third who’s very comfortable in his hold up play & strong in the air. It’s very early days but I’ve been impressed from my observations so far.”

Ousting Kyogo as the club’s main striker looks impossible at this moment, but he nonetheless is beginning to cut the portrait of a useful squad addition.

Does Giakoumakis deserve more starts?

Yes

No

His stature is completely different to his Japanese counterpart and therefore renders him as more of a utility striker.

Aside from deputizing in times of injury, Giakoumakis could be useful for shutting up shop for the Bhoys without blunting their offensive edge.
