With 2022 only a few weeks away, we thought we’d take a look at the Celtic players whose contracts with the club expire next year. With the help of Transfermarkt, we have found four Celtic players whose deals expire in 2022.
We shall examine what is the most likely scenario to occur with these five players, and if the club should or will offer the players a new contract.
Jota – contract expires May 31, 2022
The on-loan attacker has had an excellent start to his Hoops career. The Benfica man has become a fans’ favourite since joining the club, and he is badly missed at the moment as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Celtic stated when the player was initially signed that there is an option to buy the winger included in the loan deal.
The good news is that Celtic are reportedly looking to get a permanent deal done during this season, for a fee of £6.5m. That is a lot of money, but Jota looks to be worth splashing that cash on.
Cameron Carter-Vickers – contract expires May 31, 2022
The on-loan Tottenham centre-half has firmly established himself as a first-team regular at Celtic Park from the moment he arrived at the club.
Just like the Jota deal, when the transfer was announced the club revealed that there is an option to buy included in the loan.
That option should be taken up as soon as possible, as Carter-Vickers has performed very well since arriving at the club. He and Carl Starfelt have formed an excellent partnership at the heart of the Hoops backline.
Hopefully a deal can be reached between Celtic and the North London club to ensure that the American is signed up on a permanent basis.
Ewan Henderson – contract expires May 31, 2022
The attacking midfielder has not featured for the Hoops this season, at this stage of his career the best thing to do is probably to move on from the club at the end of the season to look for regular first-team football, which he is unlikely to get at Celtic, as there are too many players ahead of him in the squad.
Karamoko Dembele – contract expires May 31, 2022
The youngster hasn’t featured this season after picking up an injury in a pre-season friendly, but he has shown enough in his few first-team appearances that he should be given a new contract by the club.
Hopefully the player is keen to sign one and stay with the Hoops for a few years yet, as Dembele could be a big player for the Hoops in the future.
