It looks as if Celtic aren’t finished with the club’s transfer business in the January window. Just last week, the triple signing of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi was confirmed.
Now, Sky Sports have reported that the Hoops are looking to sign another two players. The report discloses that the Bhoys have begun discussions about turning Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan deals at the club, into permanent ones.
The reports details that Jota will cost £6.5m to sign from Benfica, whilst to sign the American centre-back, Tottenham are looking for £6m. That will be a total of £12.5m, if the Hoops are able to reach agreement to bring both players to the club.
That is a lot of money to spend, but when you consider how well both players have performed for the Hoops so far this season, then it would be money well-spent.
There might still be a way to go before any deal for each player is completed, but Celtic fans should allow themselves to get excited about the prospect of the players committing their futures to Celtic Park.
Already it looks like Celtic are putting together a squad capable of strongly challenging for the league, and that would certainly be the case if Jota and Carter-Vickers joined the club on permanent deals.
It would be good if Celtic were able to get both deals completed quickly, as it would take away any fears that fans could have about the duo leaving the Hoops at the end of the season when the loan deals end.
Both players have been vital to Celtic’s performances this season, with Jota being very exciting on the wing, and Carter-Vickers bringing a solidity to the backline, which has helped the Hoops record the best defensive record in the Premiership.
Anytime either of the duo have missed a game it has been an issue for the Bhoys, Jota has been particularly missed since he suffered a hamstring injury against Hearts at the start of December.
Hopefully his return to the Celtic line-up won’t be far away, as the Hoops are a much better side when both he and Carter-Vickers are in the team.
Only time will tell if Celtic are able to get both deals completed, but for the moment, fans can get excited about the possibility of both players joining the club permanently.
It would be a huge boost to the Hoops if the players were to stay at the club for the next few seasons. Hopefully the deals can be agreed quickly, and announced soon.
