It has been reported that Celtic are currently in the middle of a three-team transfer battle.
Sky Sports News news editor Anthony Joseph reported on Twitter that the Hoops are interested in signing Charlotte FC’s Riley McGree, but that Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough are also keen to sign the player, who could cost £2.5m.
Joseph goes on to say that the Hoops are in talks with Charlotte to sign the midfielder.

It is fair to say that not many Celtic fans will have been aware of the player before he was linked with the Hoops. However, as he is an Australian international, 23-year-old will be well-known to Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

We have seen how well that Kyogo has done for the Hoops, and he was a player that Postecoglou must have identified, so the manager’s judgement deserves to be backed when it comes to McGree.
It is a promising sign that Celtic are in talks about the player, according to Joseph. That must mean that the club back Postecoglou’s judgement when it comes to signing the player.
If McGree does sign for the Hoops, then he could be considered as the fourth signing in the January window that has been identified by the manager, following in the footsteps of the Japanese trio of Yosuke Ideguchi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda.

As Postecoglou seems to be the driving force behind this potential deal, it is important that Celtic win the three-team battle to sign McGree. He seems to be a player that the manager is keen to sign, and the Hoops board should once again be backing their manager.
If McGree does sign, it will be interesting to see if Celtic look to move more players out of the squad before the team makes another purchase. So far Celtic have signed four players in January, and as yet no players have left the club on a permanent deal, only on loan.
There is no doubt that having a big squad is a good thing when you consider just how many injuries that Celtic have had so far this season, but you don’t want to have a squad that is too big, and gets bloated with too many players.
Still, if McGree is a player that the Celtic boss is really eager to sign, then he should be bought by the club. It would undeniably please the Hoops boss.
