Celtic striker Albian Ajeti has not had the best of seasons. The forward, who joined the Hoops from West Ham in a deal reportedly worth £5m in 2020, has been out of action with an injury picked up against Real Betis in a rare start for the player in November.
Before he picked up the injury, Ajeti had been limited to 17 appearances for Celtic this season, scoring three goals. He had started five of those 17 games.
The injury came at a bad time for the 24-year-old, as he could have had a run in the team with Celtic having so many injuries in the striking department this season.
As it is, Ajeti is out of action, and as yet there is no news on when he will return to the first-team. There is another reason that the injury has come at a bad time for the player, as it has meant that he will not be able to leave the Hoops in the January transfer window.
If Ajeti was fit, and not featuring for the Hoops, then the player could have been sold on a permanent or loan deal in the January window. However, at the moment it seems that he will not be fit for a while yet.
The player’s injuries will dictate his Celtic future. If he is not back in action until after the window closes, then who knows, perhaps he will feature for the Hoops in the second-half of the season. Ajeti could score some vitals goals in the campaign.
What seems more likely though is that Ajeti will be a squad player at best for the Bhoys, especially as the likes of Giorgos Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda, both players that were signed by Ange Postecoglou, will likely be in action for the Hoops sooner rather than later.
That does not mean that Ajeti can’t still contribute, but the player will likely want more first-team football than he is going to get at Celtic. It is a pity that it hasn’t really worked out for Ajeti so far at Celtic.
He looked like he was going to be a good signing for the Hoops at first, but poor form and a lack of first-team opportunities have meant that the move hasn’t really worked out.
It remains to be seen just how long that Ajeti will remain a Celtic player, but as it stands he seems to be far away from being a first-team regular for the Hoops. These things happen at clubs, when transfers don’t work out, and it seems that Ajeti’s move to Celtic has not really worked out.
