An important moment in Celtic‘s season occurred in the 74th minute of the Hoops’ recent win over Ross County, when midfielder David Turnbull made his long-awaited return from injury.

The midfielder had been out of action since picking up a serious hamstring injury in the Premier Sports Cup Final against Hibernian in December, but now the 22-year-old is back at just the right time for the Hoops, as the Bhoys aim to win the league title.

One promising aspect of Turnbull’s performance is that he hasn’t lost his ability to find his teammates with a pass. As revealed on WhoScored.Com, Turnbull had a pass accuracy rating of 94.1%, which is impressive when you consider that he has been out of action for so long.

Turnbull had the third highest pass accuracy in the Hoops side overall in the game, behind Tom Rogic and Joe Hart, so it seems that it hasn’t taken the Celtic midfielder long to get back into the groove for the Bhoys.

Now that Turnbull is back in action for the Hoops, he will likely spend the next few weeks getting fitter on the Celtic training ground before the Bhoys return to action after the international break against Rangers at Ibrox.

It will be interesting to see if Turnbull starts the game against Rangers. Normally it would probably be considered a bit of a gamble to start a player that is just returning from injury in such an important game.

But when you consider how vital a player Turnbull was to Celtic before his injury – he had scored nine goals this season – then you can make a case for Ange Postecoglou giving the nod to starting the player in a game which is very important to Celtic’s hopes of winning the title.

Turnbull’s chances of starting could also depend on how Reo Hatate fares on returning from international duty. If he is fit and ready to go, Hatate could start the game, and Turnbull might find himself on the bench. It is a big decision which faces the Hoops manager.

Even if Turnbull doesn’t start the Glasgow derby, it is a big deal for Celtic to have the player back in the squad for the last two months of the season. He is more than capable of adding to the nine goals that he has scored so far in the 2021/22 campaign.

Despite missing so much of the season, Turnbull could still make a big impact for the Bhoys as the Hoops aim to win the title, and that could start in the upcoming Glasgow derby, only time will tell.
