In Celtic’s bid to win the title, one player has stood out over the past few weeks with a flurry of goals and assists – Jota.
The 23-year-old has been in practically unplayable form for the Hoops, and he was exceptional in Celtic’s recent 4-1 win over Hearts. The on-loan Benfica star contributed two assists, and was unlucky to have a goal disallowed as he looked to be onside but was flagged off.
His assists against Hearts showcased both sides of his game. For Daizen Maeda’s goal, he went on a great run, leaving defenders in his wake, before crossing to the unmarked striker. For Kyogo’s goal, Jota was in the penalty box to nod down Matt O’Riley’s cross, before Kyogo added the finishing touch.
In the last seven league games the Hoops have played, Jota has contributed an excellent total of two goals and six assists, and after what was a quiet few games he has become the main man for the Bhoys, and he will be a big reason that the Hoops will win the league.
In total this season, Jota has scored 12 goals for the Hoops and contributed 14 assists, which is an excellent total for a winger. You have to think that in the upcoming games against Dundee United and Motherwell he will have the chance to add to both his goal and assist total for the season.
All at Celtic will be hoping that the remaining two games the Hoops have left to play will not be Jota’s last games for the Bhoys, and he will return to the club on a permanent deal next season.
Whilst earlier there may have been some doubts about getting a permanent deal done, there is no doubt that over the last month Jota has shown that he is one of the players that is worth building the team around.
Only time will tell if Jota does sign permanently for the Hoops, but he certainly seemed to enjoy the scenes of celebration after the final against Hearts, as the players saluted the Celtic support.
It is probably reading too much into the after-match scenes, but Jota does seem to enjoy playing for Celtic, which is hopefully a promising sign regarding his future at the club.
Whatever happens in the future, Jota’s contribution to Celtic at the most important time of this season shouldn’t be forgotten about. He has been a big reason for Celtic’s success this season, and hopefully there will soon be a promising announcement about his future at the club.
