Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has made his first signing since becoming manager of Fleetwood Town, and it is a player he knows very well from his time in Scotland, St Johnstone right-back Shaun Rooney.

Rooney, who won two domestic cups with St Johnstone, would no doubt have had teams in Scotland interested in him but the pull of working with Brown must have been key to his move to Fleetwood.

The Hoops icon will no doubt look to bring a few players in, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if most of them were from the Scottish Premiership, as Brown will obviously be familiar with those players as he has been involved in the Scottish game for around 20 years.

It does seem inevitable that some Celtic players will be on his radar, most likely on loan deals. Here we look at thee Hoops talents that could benefit from moving to England on a temporary basis and working with a Hoops icon.

The left-back spent the second-half of last season on loan at Aberdeen, as his Celtic first-team chances were denied by the likes of Greg Taylor and Josip Juranovic.

That is still likely to be the case in season 2022/23, first-team opportunities will probably be limited, which is why a loan move for the player to Fleetwood could be goof for Montgomery, to give him some playing time before he returns to Celtic Park.

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons on loan at Queen’s Park, where he has helped them win two consecutive promotions, which is a very creditable achievement.

The former Bolton talent could benefit from working with a fellow central midfielder in Brown, who seen and done it all in his time at Celtic. That could improve Connell’s game, and perhaps lead to him getting some game time at Celtic Park in the future.

Another Celtic midfielder that spent last season out on loan, the former Sheffield Wednesday man was at Motherwell in the second-half of the season, but didn’t get regular playing time at Fir Park.

Just like Connell, he is another central midfielder that would only benefit from working with one of the best midfielders that has ever played for the Hoops, and it will be interesting to see if the Hoops would let the player move on loan should Brown approach Celtic, as the move would give the player first-team football which at the moment seems unlikely at Celtic Park.
