Celtic recently gave fans the chance to vote in a poll on the club’s Twitter account to vote for what was the best hat-trick scored by a Celtic player in season 2021/22.

There were four options to choose from: Kyogo vs Dundee, David Turnbull vs St Mirren, and Giorgos Giakoumakis’ two trebles vs Dundee and Ross County.

In total over 12,000 Hoops fans voted, and the winner was the Greek striker Giakoumakis. One of his two hat-tricks was voted the best, and it was the three goal salvo in the 3-2 victory over Dundee back in February, a win which put the Hoops three points clear at the top of the league.

Interestingly, it was after the win against Dundee that Giakoumakis predicted that the Hoops would go on to win the Premiership title, and he was proved to be correct.

Giakoumakis’ hat-trick against Dundee might not have been as eye-catching as Kyogo’s against the same side, in what was his first Premiership start for the Bhoys, but arguably it was more important.

The Hoops struggled in the game against Dundee, and were being held to a draw with only four minutes remaining. But up stepped the Greek striker with a fine diving header from an Anthony Ralston cross to seal a huge three points.

It was literally the perfect hat-trick by Giakoumakis, as he had already scored with his left foot and his right foot before heading the ball home for the winning goal.

It was vital that Celtic picked up the three points against Dundee as it allowed the Hoops to move clear at the top of the Premiership, after Rangers had dropped points against Dundee United prior to the Hoops kicking off.

As for Giakoumakis, the hat-trick was another example of his ability to find the back of the net after what was a slow start to his Hoops career. He really came onto a game in the second-half of the season though, and ended the Premiership season as joint top scorer in the competition.

If he can stay fit next season, there is no reason why he cannot once more be amongst the goals in the Premiership, and he is more than capable of finishing top scorer not only in the Premiership, but for the Hoops overall, ahead of the likes of Kyogo and Daizen Maeda.
