Bernabei becomes the first Argentina player in Celtic’s history, and he will be in competition with Greg Taylor for the left-back role at Celtic Park going forward. The player will wear number 25 for the Hoops, and he will likely feature for the Bhoys in the team’s upcoming pre-season tour of Austria.
READ CELTIC VERDICT:
It is good to see that Celtic have got the deal for Bernabei over the line, after weeks of being linked with the 21-year-old. It is a positive sign that the Bhoys have given the player such a long-term contract, which shows that Postecoglou and the club have a lot of faith in the full-back’s ability as a player.
The other positive aspect of the long-term contract is that should Bernabei be an excellent signing for the Bhoys, then any club which wants to sign him will have to pay a lot of money for the defender, which is what Celtic should be doing with every signing that the club makes going forward.
With how well that Greg Taylor performed for the Hoops last season, Bernabei will need to play well when he gets the chance to hold down a first-team place in the Celtic side. That is hopefully a challenge that the player is up to, and the battle between Taylor and Bernabei will be one that will define the Hoops next season, and hopefully both players can take their games to a new level in season 2022/23.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Bernabei adapts to the Scottish game, but it is a good sign that almost every other player that the Bhoys have signed under Ange Postecoglou have adapted to the Scottish game very quickly, and hopefully the same thing happens to Bernabei.
Good luck to him as he makes history by becoming the first Argentinian player in Celtic’s history.
