Celtic icon Henrik Larsson, one of the greatest players in the entire history of the club, turns 51-years-old today, and his birthday has been marked on social media by some high-profile Twitter accounts.

Perhaps the most high-profile is the official Champions League Twitter account, which showed a video compilation of the goals the Hoops striker has scored in the biggest competition in club football.

The same account also showed a video of his performance in the 2006 Champions League final for Barcelona against Arsenal.

There was also a Twitter birthday message from Barcelona, as he was a key man for the Spanish club when they won only their second ever Champions League trophy.

Unsurprisingly, the Celtic Twitter account has also wished one of the Hoops greats a happy birthday.

Larsson’s legend at Celtic will only continue to grow in the years to come as he has to be one of the best players that have ever laced up a pair of boots at Celtic Park.

READ CELTIC VERDICT:

It is hard to believe that Henrik Larsson is now 51-years-old, as it seems like not long ago he was scoring for Celtic in the UEFA Cup Final against Porto, when in fact that game was almost 20 years go.

Celtic have had a lot of good players at the club since Larsson’s departure in 2004, and perhaps Scott Brown is the only one since Larsson whose impact was as seismic, and the former Hoops captain played for the Bhoys for a lot longer than Larsson did.

Will any of the current Celtic squad become a Hoops icon like Henrik Larsson has? Perhaps the most likely candidates are Callum McGregor and James Forrest, but even then those players probably won’t have the same lasting impact that Larsson has had on the Celtic support over the years.

Will Larsson ever return to Celtic Park in any capacity? Probably not, and that is likely for the best, as the last thing that the Hoops support will want is a Hoops legend to be part of an unsuccessful management team at Celtic Park for example.

For the moment though, it is time to celebrate a Celtic legend on his birthday, and wish happy birthday to the great Henrik Larsson.
