Celtic have many players in their squad who could be considered as the best player in Scotland, on their day the likes of Jota, Kyogo, and Cameron Carter-Vickers, can all be said to be head and shoulders above any other player in the Scottish game.
However, when it comes to sheer consistency and importance to the side, they pale in comparison to Celtic captain Callum McGregor. The Hoops skipper made his return to the Celtic side in the 1-0 win over Aberdeen, and it was his late thunderbolt of a strike which secured the victory for the Hoops at Pittodrie.

With the game seemingly heading towards a frustrating draw for the Hoops, McGregor took matters into his own hands and after finding space for himself, he hammered the ball into the back of the net, in a true captain’s performance.

Celtic might have won every domestic game that the team played when McGregor was out of action with his knee injury, but he was still missed in those fixtures, and he was especially missed in the Champions League group stage fixtures that he was absent for.
Would Celtic have won the games in the Champions League that McGregor was absent for? Who can say, but he would certainly have had an impact on the games for the Bhoys.
The good news is that McGregor is back in action for the Hoops, and his performance against Aberdeen shows just how important he is to the club, and he is the best player in Scotland for a number of reasons.

In a way, McGregor is reminiscent of his predecessor as Celtic captain Scott Brown. He might not be as ‘in your face’ as Brown was, but he is just as important when it comes to motivating the team, which McGregor did even after he scored the only goal at Pittodrie, to make sure that the Hoops kept their concentration levels high after taking the lead so late in the game.
You have to think that as long as McGregor stays fit, he will be in the Celtic side for the rest of the season, and he will be keen not to be rested either, as he missed so many games over the last few months. The Hoops might have a lot of games to play, but McGregor will want to start every one of those games, and there is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou will keep selecting the player as long as he is fit and raring to go.
