No one associated with Celtic will be publicly thinking about the Hoops winning a domestic treble. They will argue that there is too much work to be done, the title is far from over, it is disrespectful to opponents etc.

However, that doesn’t mean that Celtic fans can’t discuss the prospect of the Hoops winning a domestic treble, and that will come into focus over the next few weeks, as the Bhoys face games in the Scottish Cup, Scottish Premiership and League Cup Final.

If the Hoops successfully navigate the games, then the Bhoys will be well-placed to win a domestic treble. The upcoming League Cup Final against Rangers at Hampden on the 26th of February will of course be key to Celtic’s prospects of winning the treble, and one player who will be vital to Celtic’s chances of winning the game is Greg Taylor.

That name might come as a surprise to some Hoops fans, but there are two examples in the last year of Taylor having to be substituted against Rangers, and the Bhoys not winning either game.

The first example is last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final, which changed as both Taylor and fellow Celtic full-back Josip Juranovic suffered injuries, and most recently last month’s draw at Ibrox between the teams, which saw Celtic lose control of a game they were dominating when Juranovic filled in for Taylor at left-back.

That shows just how important the 25-year-old is to the Hoops. Of course it would be a blow for the side if Kyogo or Callum McGregor got injured in the next few weeks. But the two examples in the last 12 months show how much the Hoops rely on Taylor – and now Alistair Johnston – to add balance to the side.

When Ange Postecoglou first became Celtic manager much was made of the fact that he liked to play with inverted full-backs who end up playing in midfield at times. That move looked to be a gamble at first, but it has worked out and been a key aspect of Celtic’s success over the last year.

Taylor has been a big part of Celtic’s success in that time, and that is something that few people would have predicted after the player didn’t really impress all that much before Postecoglou arrived in the East End of Glasgow.

But now Taylor is one of the main men for the Hoops, and the team’s chances of a domestic clean sweep will be enhanced if he can stay fit for the rest of the season.
