Opinion: Don’t be shocked if recent Celtic signing makes Cup Final impact

Unless he gets injured in the next 48 hours, Kyogo will start for Celtic in the League Cup Final against Rangers. That makes sense, as he is the Hoops’ best striker, and he is in excellent form this season.

However, as Kyogo is just back from a shoulder injury, and as he rarely completes a 90 minutes for the Hoops, don’t be shocked if recent Hoops signing Hyeongyu Oh makes an impact at Hampden Park.

Oh made his first start for the Bhoys in the recent win over Aberdeen, replacing Kyogo was didn’t start the game due to his aforementioned shoulder injury. Oh did well in his first start for the Hoops, he didn’t score, but he did well holding the ball up and have gave the Aberdeen defence problems.

Oh was brought to Celtic to replace Georgios Giakoumakis, and the former Hoops striker did very well against Rangers, featuring in the Bhoys’ last three wins over the Ibrox side, even though he didn’t score once in any of the games.

If Oh manages to score once against Rangers, he will have a better derby record than the player that he was brought in to replace. It seems certain that Oh will feature at some stage of the match, as he featured in every game since he signed for the Bhoys in the January transfer window.

What a start to his Celtic career it would be if he managed to score his first goal in a cup final, even better if it was the winning goal, he would be an immediate Celtic hero.

We might not see the best of Oh until next season, same as how we never saw the very best of Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda until their second seasons at Celtic. But it should be remembered that those two players still contributed last season, and Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou will be looking for Oh to make a similar contribution this season.

Oh will offer something different for Celtic, he is a different type of player for the Hoops, which he means he gives the opposition different kinds of problems than Kyogo does.

It will be interesting to see at what stage of the game Oh features, it will likely be in the second-half, and if the Hoops are needing a goal, or are needing to keep the ball to preserve the lead, he could be a more than useful player to have on the Hampden Park pitch.

It promises to be the biggest game of Oh’s brief Celtic career, and it will be intriguing to see just how much of an impact he has on the game.
