Last year, I watched the excellent documentary on Amazon, “Sir Alex Ferguson, never give up”.
It wasn’t your run of the mill, standard, football documentary.
It was extremely insightful and it completely changed my perception of Alex Ferguson.

For many years, I affiliated Alex Ferguson with Rangers 1872.
As a result, I hated Manchester United while he was manager of that club.
Even though I had no affiliation with any Premier League sides, I lived to hate the Old Trafford side.
Looking back on it now, it was petty and narrow minded.
But hey, I was young and stupid then and anything connected with Ibrox was the subject of my wrath.

When Ferguson left United in 2013, any waning interest I had in the EPL died.
Ironically, through my dislike of United, it was ultimately him who caused me to be interested in the Premier League.
Today, for me, I feel nothing towards Manchester United, no like, no dislike.
In fact, I was actually pleased for them last night when they beat Barcelona.
Returning to the Alex Ferguson documentary, I suppose I could say I was educated somewhat on his past and his experiences at Rangers 1872.
They weren’t good.
I won’t give away what transpires in the documentary, just in case you haven’t seen it, but the Ibrox outfit’s treatment of Ferguson due to his wife being a Catholic is the driving force behind a particular scene in the documentary.
Ferguson’s Aberdeen side have just beaten Rangers 1872 1-0 in the 1983 Scottish Cup Final.
A reporter walks up to Ferguson to get his reaction to the win, here’s the conversation that followed:
“Alex Ferguson, many congratulations on winning the Scottish Cup for the second year. But it was close?”
“We’re the luckiest team in Scotland,” replies Ferguson, “we were a disgrace of a performance!”
“Are you surprised by the way that??……”
“Miller and McLeish won the cup for Aberdeen, Miller and McLeish played Rangers themselves! A disgrace of a performance! And I’m no caring, winning cups doesn’t matter. Our standards have been set long ago and I’m not going to accept that from any Aberdeen team!! And no way can we take any glory for that!”
“Can you give a reason for the disappointing performance then?” asks the reporter.
“Nah, nah, ah couldnae. If you could open up their minds you’d be able to find out.”
Ferguson had just beaten Rangers 1872 in the Scottish Cup Final and he was raging, absolutely raging.
Why? Why did he feel that way?
He explains it in the documentary afterwards.

He said first he wanted to show that Aberdeen were the best team Scotland ever had.
But the interviewer in the documentary was having none of it, he pushed Ferguson for the truth.
“In all honesty, was it about being the best team in Scotland or hammering Rangers?”
Ferguson takes a long pause, “I think it was probably about beating Rangers. This was my moment to say, right, you’re going to get it. I wanted to put the knife in them. I think it was that alright.”
Ferguson’s motivation that day was down to the disrespect Rangers 1872 had shown him because his wife was a Catholic.
That and also how they had treated him after he had last played in a Scottish Cup final against Celtic in 1969.
He was blamed for that 4-0 loss.
He wanted to put the knife in them.
His words.
That’s the kind of feeling both of the Ibrox sides instil in you.
That was 40 years ago, yet here we are today, listening to shit “fashion statements” pouring out of Ibrox, designed solely to insult and disrespect Celtic, it’s manager and it’s players.
Granted, it is a different kind of insult to that which Ferguson experienced, but it instils the same kind feelings.
You want to put the knife in them.
You want them to get it.
Fashion Sakala has no idea how much he has helped Celtic’s cause this week, with his crass statements and boasts.

The other mob?
The Ibrox side were better than Celtic under Gerrard and if Gerrard was still there, they would have beaten us last season?
They’re better than us now because they’re back to the way they were under Gerrard?
Sakala’s stupidity is there for all to see.
Even for intellectually challenged people like Barry Ferguson.
There’s a reason Gerrard ran for Birmingham.

That reason will be waiting for you on Sunday, Fashion Sakala.
You and your team of Gumtree Galacticos.
Every one of a Celtic persuasion will be waiting to defeat your team.
None more so than Ange Postecoglu.
And I base that on his body language during that farce at Hampden during the week.
When they do a documentary on him in the years to come, maybe he’ll really talk about how he felt this week.
Just like Alex Ferguson did all those years later.
The difference is, there is a very strong chance Ange Postecoglu will humiliate the Ibrox side.
In his documentary, I’m sure he will express, in no uncertain terms, the pleasure that gave him.
Sunday can’t come quick enough!
Eric,
You state you were once young and stupid. Now you are older and still stupid, Will you never learn my friend.
Yes I agree that Ferguson was treated badly because his wife was a catholic but Rangers moved on from that a long time ago and so should you.
Billy, I take it you’re a fan of the Ibrox club, yes? It’s interesting then, that you are one of my most avid readers and consistently comment on my blogs. This is a CELTIC website. Do you comment on Ibrox noise or Follow Follow at all? I’m older and stupid? I’m the one with the successful blog, you’re the one who’s an Ibrox fan who thinks it’s smart to read and comment on a Celtic website every day. Now that’s the definition of stupid!
Eric, Do not think so. You are easily challenged.
