There’s about as much chance of Morelos ending up at Sevilla as there is of Celtic losing the title this year
And we’re off again.
Morelos transfer bingo is under way once more.
According to a “reporte especial” in last night’s Sun, the chunky Colombian has signed a pre contract with Sevilla.
This particular “reporte especial” is the epitome of lazy journalism and the definition of clickbait.
But here’s what the Sun had to say:
Reports from Spain claim the striker has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Sevilla – calling an end to his Ibrox spell.
The Europa League side have struggled in the Spanish top-flight this season and are at the tale end of the table in 17th – level on points with fellow relegation battlers Almeria.
Relegation is on the cards for the club, with Valencia also in the La Liga red zone.
Sevilla have been tipped with a move for Morelos in the past and it looks like they’ve finally agreed a deal for the hitman to bring him to Spain on a free.
Except that it doesn’t really look like Sevilla have finally agreed a deal for the hitman to bring him to Spain on free.
If you click the link in the quote from the Sun, you’ll see a completely different story.
The headline in the article from SAMOSMISEVILLA seems to be the victim of poor translation from Google translate.
Yet the stellar journalists from the Pulitzer prize winning Sun have jumped on it, and portrayed it to be gospel truth.
Here’s the headline:
Alfredo Morelos has a pre-contract with Sevilla FC
Except he doesn’t.
Read the below:
The forward will be one of the positions to reinforce next summer, since it is very probable that Rafa Mir, En-Nesyri or both will leave next summer.
Among the options that the sports management would be considering is an opportunity at zero cost, which has already been mentioned in previous transfer windows.
This is the Colombian Alfredos Morelos from Glasgow Rangers, who ends his contract with the Scottish team this summer and would have already committed to the Nervión entity.
At 26, he currently has a market value of 10 million euros and has scored 10 goals this season and provided 6 assists in 36 games played.
Can anyone tell me where the report from Spain claims that he’s signed a pre-contract agreement with Sevilla?
Anyone?
The report clearly states that he is among the options the sports management would be considering.
It does not say that he has signed a pre-contract.
Where it says he would have already committed to the Nervión entity, correctly translated, most likely means he can commit to the club because he is available for free.
But there is no where in that article that says he has signed a pre-contract with Sevilla.
I know his “inner circle” said last summer that a move to Sevilla would appeal to him.
Of course it would.
Fast forward to today and a badly translated article from Seville “confirms” he’s already signed a pre-contract.
Like I said, there’s about as much chance of Morelos ending up at Sevilla as there is of Celtic losing this season’s title.
The reality is that somebody in some obscure online news title in Seville says he’s an option and he’s available on a free.
To the award winning churnalists at the Sun, that translates into deal done, signed sealed and delivered.
What a load of bollocks.
What’s worse is they actually give you the link to the article which refutes absolutely nothing they’re reporting.
Now every outlet is picking up the story and running with it.
That’s the SMSM for you.
No original investigative journalism.
Just monkey see, monkey do.
It was ever thus.
The Sun and lies and a fabricated fable are commonplace ,always have been ! I would say there’s as much chance of big Alfoodo going to Sevilla as the great Lee Sklar having a shave today ….
