A week ago tomorrow, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay flew to Mallorca to entice Brendan Rodgers back to the U.K. to engage in talks with Dermot Desmond.
From Desmond’s perspective, it was clear he wanted only one man for the Celtic job.
In reality, all of the other candidates were interviewed to go through the motions.
Once there was the slightest hint Rodgers was interested, all management eggs were flung into one basket.
I know everybody is reporting it as a done deal, with all the finer details being thrashed out at the moment.
Yet here we are, almost a week later, and to all intents and purposes, still without a manager.
But you’ve got to ask the question, why does everything at Celtic always move at a glacial pace?
The only time we’ve seen a management appointment move at a fast pace was when we hired Ange Postecoglou.
We all know that was a total panic appointment after the Howe debacle, whereby the City Group contact list was looked up and the first name recommended at the time, was hired.
It was one of the biggest strokes of luck our club ever experienced in it’s existence.

Look at how fast Tottenham moved to appoint Ange Postecoglou?
It was done and dusted within days of the Scottish Cup final.
It makes you wonder why we just can’t seem to get things done at that pace?
Granted, we moved at pace to contact Brendan Rodgers, but a week later, he’s still not officially the manager.
Look, I know at the best of times, we Celtic fans are an impatient bunch, but we’ve been stung so many times before on this front, we can’t help but become nervous when things are dragging on once again.
Which leads me to only one conclusion.
The club is taking it’s time at this, because they want to get it right.
And by right, I mean bang on the money.

Because there are several factors to take into account here.
The first one, of course, is the fan reaction.
Indications throughout the week, based on polls and general opinion, are that he will broadly be welcomed back.
I ran a poll on one of my previous blogs during the week, and 74% of readers voted in favour of a Rodgers return.
There seems to be a similar number across the board.
Which means there’s still around 25% of the fanbase who are not in favour of this appointment.
My belief is that the board are putting a strategy in place to ensure this percentage of the fanbase will be won over.
They know it’s highly unlikely that 13,000 fans will turn out again to see Rodgers unveiled.
So my guess is that the unveiling has been put firmly in the hands of the Celtic PR team.

They have been tasked with coming up with something that will win the entire fan base over.
I believe this is what they’re currently working on and that they intend unveiling Rodgers early next week.
It’s the only logical explanation that I can come up with.
Because in reality, it can’t take that long to put a backroom team together.
Without being alarmist, remember what happened when Eddie Howe was trying to negotiate bringing his entire backroom team to Celtic?
Maybe people are still trying to convince John Kennedy to stay and be part of the team?
It’s hard to know, because Ange Postecoglou has already secured Brendan Rodgers’ previous no. 2, Chris Davies.
Based on that, would it still be likely that Postecoglou could be trying to entice John Kennedy to Spurs?
Then there’s the Lawwell factor.

Is Brendan Rodgers dragging his feet until such time as he has cast iron guarantees that there will be no interference from Peter Lawwell?
Let’s call a spade a spade here, Rodgers and Lawwell clearly did not see eye to eye before the end of Rodgers’ last tenure.
It’s highly likely that there’s still an element of bad blood between the two.
Could it be that Desmond has sat the two of them in the same room and got them to thrash out their differences before all of this is announced?
So many questions.
Unfortunately, this is what happens when we’re left to stew and wait for as long as we’ve had to since last Sunday.
However, I’m going to be optimistic here and go with my belief that Celtic just want to get this right.
I believe we’ve become too professional as a club over the last two years for it to be anything other than that.
Rodgers’ unveiling, at this point due to the length of the wait, would want to be something special.
There is no alternative, because for this to fall through would be unthinkable.
Lightning cannot strike twice in the same place, can it?
I guess we’ll find out next week.
With Celtic, you just never know, do you?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mr Rodgers actually says “No thanks”
I am always suspicious when appointments are not made straight away.
I have reservations about Brendan coming back. But as a lifelong Celtic fan I of course will hope for the best.
Being English I certainly will be not be supporting
Spurs.
Ange was a panic. Shut up. Mark Lawwell had been aware of him through the city and recommended him highly. He wasn’t first, but he wasn’t a panic or a lucky appointment. To say otherwise is just stupid.
Waiting on the stock market opening on Monday?
In my opinion Brendan Rodgers left because of Peter Lawell and we may never know why, we didn’t get an explanation as to the ins and outs. Left to our own decision many fans made their minds up, took sides and the rest is history. Reading between the lines Peter Lawell did not want Brendan back and I feel there will always be a grudge there which could be disastrous for Brendan Rodgers, beware the enemy within.
I wouldn’t be surprised either all the media Hype has surrounded BR. I would say, I wouldn’t be shocked if someone was appointed totally out of left field that no-one seen coming. They’ve done it before, so I am patiently waiting for the reveal.
Why does it have to be a showbiz type unvieling? Just announce it with a few pics and let him get on with the work.
My guess would be that the Scotland v Norway international would be the focus of the MSM scoops’ priority over the weekend ! Wait till Monday until all the attention dissipates then unveil the next head coach …. Think of the amount of ex,the Rangers players ,who are employed by the weekend tabloids for opinion pieces ? Celtic’ s new boss would be of secondary importance to the Miller’s , big fake Kris Boyd and the like , as it would be futile to try and be a bigger headline than trying to beat big Haaland!
Agree with Derek ange was no fluke Celtic knew exactly what they were doing, also don’t make me laugh spurs and ange had been talking for weeks if not months sorry very negative article
Calm down for god sake,a whole week ,panic when it starts to drag to Howe levels.
Aye right you don’t think spurs weren’t talking to ange for weeks ! Rodgers is no worse than A P , only difference is AP won’t be back at celtic ever again – Rodgers a great appointment but got to agree we need to stop treating these guys like gods – dembele Tierney Rodgers ange they all go in the end its only the support that stays forever….
If you think the deal for Ange only took a couple of days, then think again. That would have been going on for weeks, if not months
Unless this is announced on the stock exchange on Monday morning, there are issues somewhere.Nothing is ever straightforward with us,it’s head banging stuff.
One week is hardly ‘Glacial Pace ‘ now is it …. Time was taken and obviously there’s a lot of organising with regard to back room staff etc …. Besides once Friday passed they have to wait till the stock market re opens to announce a new manager …
