There was an article published late yesterday evening in everyone’s favourite gutter rag to hate, The Sun.
It outlined an interview with Teddy Sheringham in relation to Ange Postecoglou’s first game for Tottenham.
Now, I know Ange Postecoglou is yesterday’s man and that we should be moving on from his tenure and looking forward.
However, it’s not so much the comments passed on Ange Postecoglou that bothered me, more so, the stunning ignorance shown by Sheringham towards the Scottish game.
We’ve all heard the “my Nan could play in that league” and “Scottish football is a retirement home” diatribe.
And while all of us bloggers recognise the problems in Scottish football, we also recognise it’s good qualities and the potential it has to be better.
I had several of my mates, who are EPL fans, message me and comment on what a cracking game the match at Pittodrie was on Sunday.
One of them even said there are no atmospheres like that any more in the English game.

Regardless of the contempt shown to our game by the English, you cannot deny that Sunday’s game was a great advert for Scottish football.
And my mate was right, atmospheres like that died in the English game a long time ago.
Money has destroyed the game down there and this feeds into the ignorance shown by the likes of Teddy Sheringham when it comes to Scottish football.
His comments on Ange Postecoglou and Scottish football come across as utterly braindead, starting with this:
But former Spurs star Teddy Sheringham is yet to be convinced by the ex-Celtic boss.
He said he hopes Postecoglou is a success in north London but confessed that the jury is still out on the Aussie coach.
The Jury is still out?
I mean seriously, after one game, the jury is still out?
The jury hasn’t even put their arses on their seats yet!

Postecoglou didn’t lose his opening game did he?
What is Sheringham expecting after the shambles Spurs has been for the last six years or so?
But it gets better:
The jury is out on Ange. You don’t know what you are going to get,” the former striker told the Press and Journal.
It is all well and good for Celtic to play expansive football against Hibernian or Inverness Caledonian Thistle but if they start doing it at Chelsea and Liverpool they could get their a*** spanked. You never know, he might come out on top
How would you know what you’re going to get after one EPL game?
And when are Celtic going to start playing expansive football at Chelsea and Liverpool?
Is Ange Postecoglou not the Tottenham Hotspur manager?

That’s what I thought anyway.
But what do I know?
It’s Sheringham’s total ignorance towards Scottish football that gets to me here though.
Did he ever consider that just because Ange Postecoglou played expansive football in Scotland, that it might work in England too if he has the players at his disposal to implement it?
Then again, if he knew anything about Ange Postecoglou, he would know that this is the way he has played football, no matter where he’s been.
But to single out Scottish football as the only place where Postecoglou has implemented his playing style, shows us exactly the kind of English contempt he has for the game in Scotland.
I really hope we draw an English side in the Champions League and that we then teach them a lesson on the poor quality product we have North of the border.
That would be nice.
The article concludes with a thinly veiled dig at Postecoglou and in essence the Scottish game:
It can’t be any worse for the Tottenham fans than what they have had over the last five or six years.
They want to see a team that excites the fans. Ange seems like he wants to do that so I wish him well.
In other words, Postecoglou is crap because he comes from a crap league, he can’t be any worse than what we’ve had over the last five or six years, but I wish him well.
After one EPL game, this is the best Teddy Sheringham could come up with?

The whole article encompasses all of two paragraphs, and I’ve included all of Sheringham’s intelligent quotes in mine.
There was actually that little to write about.
But this is what that gutter rag (The Sun) does at every opportunity.
It attacks Celtic and Scottish football.
As this article proves, they don’t need much to do it.
All of these quotes came from an article in The Press and Journal about Sheringham’s golf exploits.
Ryan Rowe of The Sun took them and turned them into a dig at the Scottish game.
I don’t blame Sheringham for his ignorance, he doesn’t know any better.
But the Sun knows exactly what they’re doing.
They always do.
The Sun is just toilet paper. Probably best ignoring anything that rag prints.
And if Ange is a success will there be any form of apology or contrition for denigrating him and our game????
I’m not holding my breath…
It’s not only Scottish football that the Sun Kharsi roll turns it’s nose up at ,it’s Scottish sport in general . Then there’s all the other things too ,like Politics , current affairs , the economy ,society in general . In any other civilised country some of their utterings would be construed as hate crimes towards Scotland . But no, the English are the quintessential establishment and whatever it says ,right or wrong ,just sit down and be thankful ….. That’s what Brexit means – English first ,English first ,English first you uppity Scots .
I’ve long since stopped caring what the Engerlish think of our game they’re all braindead, look at the players who’ve come up here claiming to be the real deal that’ve been sent back down the road with their tales between their legs Joey Barton, Shane Duffy and Tik Tok Todd, I know he’s not away yet but it’s only a matter of time before the sevconians turn on him. These clowns that’ve never played here don’t realise how much quality is in our league and how difficult it is to play here for Celtic and Ibrox, the pressure is enormous as second up here is last. Glenn Hoddle’s another ex-Spurs player who’s come out with the same pish since the Brentford vs Spurs game these 🤡 🤡 ‘s think that the world’s only about Engerland and everything else is inconsequential, it’s exactly that attitude that makes the rest of the world despise them. It’s a good article Eric but getting angry about what they think is wasting your anger over something you can’t control, it’s a wasted emotion mate and getting yourself worked up will only harm your health in the long run. My wife worries about crap like this and I’m sick telling her she can’t control what others think of her or me, so let it go. I know you’ve got to write articles but these people’s opinions matter not a jot, they’re irrelevant and just trying to be relevant again by slating our game. The Sun reporter as you rightly say knows what he’s doing and he’s probably twisted what they said to his own paraphrasing, it’s what Scottish ‘journalists’ do and I use ‘journalist’ in the loosest sense of the word. Every Celtic blogger and supporter should put pressure on the club to bar these newspaper and media outlets from lying about our club or they’ll be sine die from the club until such time as they make an apology and stop printing blatant lies, the days of Ibrox good Celtic bad shouldn’t still be happening in the 21st century, these morons are stuck in the 17th century though and that’s the biggest problem of all. If you can’t change a mindset in over 400 years of trying it tells you all you need to know that the appetite for change isn’t there, that can only come from the government and society as a whole and the government has been evading the issue that whole 400 years.
It’s a long article on Teddy, you could have just said, “what a dickhead”
Hey Torky56,
You dont half write some absolute drivel.Teddy Sheringham was offering his opinion nothing else and certainly not commenting of the past 400 years. Thats all in your own bigoted mind.
Thing is this cheap rag is not known for the truth anyway
