“It would not be a shock at all to me if Brendan moved on”. Desperation starts to kick in, as McCoist and Stelling wish Rodgers away again…

Ally McCoist is desperate for Brendan Rodgers to leave Celtic.

It always comes down to this, doesn’t it?

Last season, after Ange Postecoglou delivered the treble for Celtic, Ibrox fans and their minions were desperate for him to leave.

When they got their wish, they were over the moon.

Just as they were five years ago, when Rodgers left to take over Leicester City in February of 2019.

The reality is that this is all they have to cling to.

Every time there is a successful Celtic manager, who continuously outsmarts their next “wunderkind”, their only hope in the end is that he’ll leave for pastures greener.

In the aftermath of the Cup final, McCoist was wishing it into existence with his recent statements on Talksport.

And Jeff Stelling was only too happy to entertain McCoist’s baseless ramblings.

As detailed today in the rag everyone loves to hate, The Sun, here’s what McCoist had to say, making it up as he goes:

I know for a fact there is still an element of some of the Celtic support, no matter what Brendan does, will not be happy with him back at Celtic for the way they see the way he left in the first place.

It would not be a shock at all to me if Brendan moved on and moved back south.

Oh yeah?

So, he knows for a fact there is still an element in our support who will never be happy with Brendan Rodgers?

Right, of course McCoist has close ties with that particular element of the fanbase, and they’ve told him so.

He knows for a fact, you know?

And it wouldn’t shock him if Brendan headed off down south again?

More like he desperately wishes Brendan would head off down south again.

Did he miss Rodgers’ opening press conference last year?

You know, the one where Rodgers said, and I quote:

I’ve signed for three years, and I’ll guarantee I’ll be here for three years unless I get “emptied” before that, as they say up here. But yeah, that will be the plan and then we can look at it from there.

Would you say Rodgers was “emptied” this season?

Rodgers guaranteed he would be here for the duration of his three year contract.

He would look very foolish indeed if he left after one season, and after making a statement like that, wouldn’t he?

Does McCoist really think that he would destroy the reputation he has worked so hard to rebuild this year by doing that?

To me, it really shows how stupid McCoist is that he would even say that.

It’s nothing more than wishful thinking.

Or as I said earlier, desperation.

Jeff Stelling was only too happy to speculate aimlessly on what McCoist had to say, by linking Rodgers with Brighton and Hove Albion:

I have no idea if Brighton have an interest or not, but Brendan’s reputation with young players, well that would fit the bill at Brighton absolutely perfectly.

You mean it would fit the bill absolutely perfectly for Ally McCoist?

And of course McCoist took that as an opportunity to continue with his idiotic, baseless ramblings:

There is an element of me that thinks Brendan will want to move on again, I genuinely believe that.

Of course he’s had a very successful season winning a league and cup double, and his CV once again is back up there.

He genuinely believes it.

Good for him, let him keep on believing it.

It’s always the hope that kills them anyway.

I hate to break it to McCoist, but does he really imagine that Brendan Rodgers is going to walk away from Celtic again, and forfeit the chance of participating in the new format Champions League?

Unlike McCoist, Rodgers is not stupid.

And he is certainly not so stupid as to make a statement as intense as he did last year about being “emptied”, and then walk away from Celtic again.

No, McCoist just desperately wishes he’d do that.

So that his favourite club might actually be able to compete in Scotland.

But I guess that just goes to show the level of McCoist’s stupidity, doesn’t it?

Because even if all of his wildest dreams came true, and Rodgers did leave, does he just imagine Celtic wouldn’t replace him with another elite manager?

I guess that’s the security that comes with being the richest club in Scotland, isn’t it?

Security only the likes of McCoist could wish for.

And security he’ll never have while Brendan Rodgers remains in charge of Celtic.

That’s exactly why he’s desperately wishing him away.
