So, there are plenty of rumours circulating out there about Celtic’s ambition to sign Caoimhin Kelleher.

That most reliable of sites, Football Insider, with it’s impeccable “sources”, states that Celtic are willing to offer £10 million for Kelleher.

Now, we know that at the best of times, all we read on Football Insider is pure speculation.

But let me ask you this, why would Celtic want to fork out £10 million for Kelleher, when there are quite a few decent quality goalkeeping free agents out there at the moment?

Some of these keepers have vast experience in comparison to Kelleher, and would cost the club nothing.

Now, I know they might command high wages, but weigh it up, £10 million, and then Kelleher’s wages on top of that, as opposed to no transfer fee and the prospective ‘keepers wage requirements being met?

Some of these ‘keepers are actively looking for clubs, and I’m sure they would understand that while they wouldn’t command huge wages at Celtic, they would be guaranteed playing time.

Just look at what Joe Hart did in 2021.

He took a huge pay cut in order to secure first team football.

He was realistic, and knew Celtic couldn’t pay the kind of wages he earned in the EPL.

What he got in return, he will most likely cherish for the rest of his life.

No doubt, Joe Hart will probably end up as a pundit in the Scottish game, just like Chris Sutton.

Simply because of how he fell in love with Celtic, and Scottish football.
