Keevins attempts to cause unrest amongst the Celtic support, by stating the Ibrox side is way ahead of us in terms of player signings

Last Sunday, Hugh Keevins was attempting to stir the pot with his claims that this upcoming season for Celtic is the most important since we missed out on the 10 in a row.
I wrote an article on that subject last Monday.
In it, I laid out how the numbers are exactly that, just numbers.
It’s clear that numbers are far more important to the club across the city than they are to us.
Yes, people will say that 10 in a row is a number, and that we were fixated on that 4 years ago.
But there’s a reason there is a fixation on that number.
It’s because it has never been achieved in the history of Scottish football.
To do so, would create history.
So, if we achieve what’s expected of us, and land our 55th title this coming season, it means nothing in the broader scheme of things.
We have already matched the number of titles the old club playing out of Ibrox managed to attain.
The current entity has a solitary title.
In effect, if we wrap up the title in May 2025, we will have extended our lead over the old club.
Keevins seemed very keen to make more out of that than it is.
Today, in his Sunday morning article, he’s attempting to stir the pot when it comes to the lack of transfer activity at Celtic Park.
We’re all acutely aware that Celtic have not signed a player as yet, and that the only activity thus far has been an opening bid of £4 million for Adam Idah.
Last night, we were informed that Celtic were in the process of attempting to get a deal done for Paolo Bernardo.
That’s all well and good, but the permanent signings of both players will achieve no more than maintaining the status quo in terms of squad strength.
If fact, with the sale of Oh, and the retirement of Joe Hart, we are now officially a weaker side than we were at the end of last season.
Which will be further weakened if the Idah and Bernardo deals are not tied up in the coming days.
Am I echoing the sentiments Keevins expressed in his article today?
No, I’m not, because Keevins is writing about a subject we’ve all been writing about in the last couple of weeks.
We have all been talking about the lack of transfer activity.
But what I cannot take seriously in Keevins’ article, is his insistence that the Ibrox side’s signing of a raft of players is a “problem” for us.
Here is what he had to say about that:
Even Celtic’s bank account, which is huge by domestic standards, is minuscule where the wider world is concerned. The real problem is Rangers have signed a raft of players and Celtic have been static in comparison. It’s nothing compared to the chaos that Jansen inherited back in 1997. Then he signed a player called Henrik Larsson – and the rest is history.
To put that into perspective, we signed a raft of players last summer.
We all saw how well that worked out for us, didn’t we?
It almost opened the door for the Ibrox side to pose a serious challenge to us.
But last summer, we instead watched the media drooling over signatures like Dessers, Lammers, Danilo, and Butland.
There was no mention that we had signed a raft of players, and that this would be a “problem” for the Ibrox side.
It proved enough of a problem in the end for us to win the title, I guess.
But I’ll put it this way, I would be confident with the current squad we have, that we could still beat the Ibrox side to the title this coming season.
Raft of signings or not.
That is how underwhelming those signings look to be.
It’s clear, however, what Keevins is trying to achieve here.
He’s trying to further atagonise an already antagonised Celtic support.
No doubt, Celtic fans are getting twitchy at the lack of activity.
However, Brendan Rodgers, in his recent interviews, looked very relaxed and confident when the lack of transfer activity was put to him.
With Rodgers, you can always tell when there is an underlying tone to his comments.
His facial expressions indicate when he’s not happy, as does his tone of voice.
If the board were messing him around, Rodgers might not say it, but you would be able to tell.
Just as we were back in 2018, when he was messed around to such an extent, it was the catalyst to his departure in early 2019.
We are a million miles away from that kind of scenario now.
Despite what Keevins, or anybody else in the SMSM says.
There are clear signs that Brendan Rodgers is the one in control in this window.
The Haksabanovic transfer made that much clear.
I expect to see a big increase in transfer activity from here on out.
Simply because we are now entering the time where we need to start getting the business done.
If, in another two or three weeks time, we are no further down the line, then we can legitimately start getting angry.
Because I’m fairly sure by then, Brendan Rodgers will be pretty angry too.
Until then, I’ll hold fire.
And leave the waffling to the likes of Keevins.
Of course The Rangers have the slight advantage at the moment. We need to improve on last season and as it stands we have not improved. Yes we will bring in new players though until that happens they do have slight advantage.
Can’t understand why our fans treat tube like Keevins seriously after all the nonsense he has written about our club over many years!
Celtic fans don’t listen to the dross that comes out of that over the hill reporter he’s an old done man as far as sevco are concerned have they really baught any one yet or are they just on the dripping they can’t even afford to pay for the steel to fix that old asbestos ridden dump

Look we will bring in the players needed i am sure we can bank on that,the board tend to bring out big players from time to time but hey i would think the manger is itching on the players signing and that he knows who they are just getting deals done and over the line we may see 4 or 5 ready to go players sooner than we think…
Quantity does not equal quality, as we’re all well aware from past windows. Sevco’s hastily assembled “raft” will quickly sink without a trace, while we will have an Ironclad which will sail over their wreckage with ease. Even without a signing in the door our squad is still superior to theirs.
Keevins lived in an era when the opinion of the football and general public was the only people who reported on football were failed journalists. I’m qualified to say this for I too was around in that era. please fellow Celtic fans don’t anymore listen to this faied journalist.
Keevins is a hybrid Gerry McKee , James Traynor and the gormless Boyd. Trying to create unrest and infighting among our support where none exists. As the boss says , have patience, the window has 8 weeks to go . We will get quality not the quantity that Keevins thinks would be good for us ; keep the faith and don’t react to these buffons , we know better as will be proven again next May.

Celtic have won 35 competitive trophies since 2000/2001 season to date, the closest to them have been 14 that was the OLD rangers, then they died…

With what we have now the league will be ours again but in Europe it’s a must we improve all over the park, forget about the bigots across the river, build a team for Europe
Let’s be totally honest with ourselves,we won the league last year ,in spite of Rogers,it should’ve been done n dusted by Feb, the managers style of football,plus the reluctance of the board too part with money,and the ‘ so called New Manager bounce,let the PUB team,think they had a chance,to win their 2nd league title.
Is Rodgers the man to take is into theCl next year?Not with his record at Celtic,decent in the Spfl .. but that’s it
