An Ibrox mauling is worth 9 stories in the Record, as Boyd still gloats about Celtic’s loss. Hearts only get 2, despite being the only Scottish side to win in Europe this week

Last week, the Ibrox side had no less than 10 stories in the Record dedicated to their “stunning” 2-0 victory over Malmö.

This morning, when I looked at the Record, there are 9 stories covering their mauling at the hands of Lyon last night.

Now, to put this into perspective for people like the village idiot, who managed to find a way to gloat about Celtic’s loss, despite the trouncing on home soil of his favourite side, here are some home truths.

Celtic were up against the second best team in Europe.

Defeated finalists in last season’s Champions League final.

Celtic were away from home.

Borussia Dortmund’s frontline was worth more than Celtic’s entire squad, and the money the club has in the bank.

That is just their frontline.

Their entire squad is valued at just under half a billion euros.

They are 3 points behind the leaders of the German Bundesliga.

Last night’s visitors to Ibrox sit eleventh in Ligue 1.

They have lost half of their fixtures to date this season.

The Ibrox side were the home side, and apparently on a great run of form.

In fact, none other than Kris Boyd predicted that after their “astounding and spectacular” victory against Malmö, they would go all the way to the Europa League final.

I suppose when you have to play such dross as Lyon, Manchester United, Olympiakos, and Tottenham Hotspur along the way, you can see why the village idiot would make such assumptions.

The onion bears had a tifo last night, stating there was a storm over Europe.

I guess they got that much right.

It came in the form of Olympique Lyonnais.

By the 54th minute and concession of the 4th goal, the Ibrox fans were showing their true colours, departing Ibrox because they don’t do dignified defeat.

Compare and contrast that to the Celtic fans at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night.

Little, if any, left the ground.

Despite the absolute hammering their team was taking, they stayed to support them till the last minute.

Singing and chanting “Don’t worry, be happy” amongst many other tunes from the Celtic songbook, the whole way through.

Then they stayed and applauded their team’s efforts at the end.

In the last ten minutes against Lyon, Ibrox emptied out.

There were only a few diehards remaining at the end to “applaud” their side’s efforts.

As dignified as ever in defeat, Philippe Clement stated that his side had as many chances as Lyon.

Just as he did after they lost 3-0 to Celtic.

I suppose if games were won based on chances created, his side would be streets ahead of everyone else.

It seems to escape Clement’s attention that while creating chances leads to scoring goals, getting the ball over the white line that runs between the sticks is what actually results in goals.

Lyon seemed to have a better grasp of that particular concept last night.

So, while Kris Boyd seems to think it’s more fun to indulge in petty mockery of Celtic, rather than accept his favourite side were taught a footballing lesson on home soil, his “it’s not even the worst result for a Scottish club in Europe this week” comment serves to do nothing other than confirm what he is.

A village idiot.

It’s better for Boyd to take the piss out of Celtic than acknowledge his own team were shite at home.

I understand and accept that Celtic were taught a footballing lesson on Tuesday night.

We need to learn from it, and take that experience into the next few games we play.

But there is little or no comparison between losing 7-1 to last season’s CL finalists, and taking a tanking in the Europa League at home to a team in 11th position in their league.

The fact that the Record still gives them 9 stories worth of coverage in defeat shows what audience this paper is geared towards.

Yet the one Scottish side that went and won away from home in Europe last night gets a paltry 2 stories in the Record.

I’m no lover of Hearts, but they still need to be commended for securing a win against Dinamo Minsk.

For a club low on moral, managerless, and sitting at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, to go to an away venue in Eastern Europe and snatch a late winner, is no mean feat.

It deserves more coverage than it has received.

It might just be the catalyst to kick starting their season into life.

If you’re a Hearts fan, it must be galling that a team who takes a tanking at home in Europe gets far more coverage than yours.

Especially when yours gets a win away under tough circumstances.

I suppose all of what I’ve written sums up the SMSM in a nutshell.

They would rather focus on Celtic’s loss to Dortmund by homing in on a childish remark from the village idiot, than acknowledge how brutal the Ibrox side were last night.

It’s more important to them to give wall to wall coverage to the Ibrox side in defeat.

In case they missed it, a team from the Scottish capital won away in Europe last night.

Which in itself, is a rare and momentous achievement for them.

It deserved more attention than it got.

We deserve the criticism we’ve received for our defeat.

But what I won’t accept is the village idiot gloating about it.

When he actually has sweet f*** all to gloat about.

Maybe if his favourite side had won, he’d have had good reason to gloat?

But they didn’t, did they?

They were hammered at home.

It won’t be the last time that happens either.

You can bet your house on that.

We’ll see who’s gloating come next January, won’t we?
