With this in mind, it would be interesting to see some of the most legendary attackers who have played for Celtic, and how their extraordinary abilities and performances have helped define and shape the club’s legacy.
Jimmy McGrory
Jimmy McGrory is a legendary figure in Celtic Football Club’s rich history. His playing career, spanning the mid-1920s to the late 1930s, was marked by extraordinary milestones. The most notable achievement was setting a British record for the most goals in a single season, scoring 62 goals in the 1927-1928 season.
McGrory’s exceptional ability in the air and his intuitive sense of positioning set him apart from his contemporaries. Known for his heading skills, he could navigate through tight defensive lines, turning potential clears into challenging aerial battles.
Kenny Dalglish
Kenny Dalglish, widely known as King Kenny, embarked on his distinguished football career at Celtic, where he left a deep mark before achieving legendary status at Liverpool.
Dalglish’s contributions to Celtic included helping the team secure the Scottish League Championship four times, four Scottish Cups, as well as one Scottish League Cup. His exceptional playmaking and goal-scoring prowess made him a fan favorite and a feared opponent on the pitch.

Henrik Larsson
Henrik Larsson (also known as The King of Kings) among Celtic supporters, made an indelible mark on the club during his tenure from 1997 to 2004.
He was instrumental in leading Celtic to achievements like the Scottish Premier League titles, Scottish Cups, and a UEFA Cup final appearance in 2003 against Porto.
His career also included clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, and Helsingborgs IF, among others. In over 20 years of professional football, he appeared in more than 550 professional matches and scored more than 300 goals.
Bobby Lennox
Bobby Lennox is a central figure in Celtic’s history, and he is best known for his role in the 1967 European Cup-winning team, the Lisbon Lions. Over his career with Celtic, Lennox scored almost 300 goals. His exceptional speed and agility on the left wing made him a fundamental part of Celtic’s attacking strategy during their most golden era.
Lennox’s contributions were vital in domestic competitions and also on the European stage, where he played a key role in Celtic’s historic journey to become the first British team to win the European Cup.
He was also known for his reliability in scoring and assisting, which made him a pivotal figure in many of Celtic’s significant victories throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
