The Ibrox Big Top is a circus full of clowns, while Celtic park is like an office full of boring accountants. Long may it stay that way

I know I spend a fair share of my time criticising the Celtic board.

But today is not going to be one of those days.

Yes, I want them to be more ambitious, less frugal, and a hell of a lot more efficient in the transfer market.

But their conservatism is the reason we’re run like a well oiled machine, and the Ibrox club is like a Big Top circus.

Given the choice, I’d take our board any day over the……well, there isn’t really a board at Ibrox right now, is there?

Just a bunch of clowns, presiding over one Big Top of fun.

For us, of course, not them.

They try so hard not to come across like a bunch of clowns, but they just can’t help the fact that they are exactly that.

As a result, the Ibrox side provides huge amounts of entertainment for the rest of Scottish football.

So, when I liken Ibrox to a circus, and Celtic Park to an office full of boring accountants, I think that’s a pretty apt picture to paint of both clubs.

Boring is safe, and I think it’s fair to say that Celtic is in safe hands.

Whether we agree with the policies of those in charge at Celtic, we cannot argue that our club is a million miles away from the shambles across the city.

Do I want that to change?

In certain ways, yes, but that’s a story for another day.

In the media today, they’re already talking about the next 7 games for the Ibrox side being season defining.

It’s interesting to note that there are 11 other clubs in the Scottish Premiership.

I touched on this subject in yesterday’s article.

For many of them, the next 7 games are just as season defining for their clubs.

Like Aberdeen for example, if they were to win their next 7 games, just as they’ve won their previous 7, you’d have to say that would be pretty season defining for them, wouldn’t it?

Or us, if Celtic were to win their next 7, then that should define our season too, shouldn’t it?

Even Hearts, the next 7 games could decide whether they’ll be mired in a relegation battle.

They’ll also define whether they’ll find a way out of it or not.

So, as I said, there are 11 other clubs this affects too.

But the media wants to focus on the circus, because I guess a circus attracts a lot of attention.

Ex Rangers 1872 hero, Derek Ferguson, was in the media yesterday.

In both the Sun and the Record, he stated that the Ibrox club is being run like a circus.

And you’d have to say his observations are pretty accurate.

Commenting on the collapse of Samuel Edozie’s proposed move from Southampton to Ibrox, here’s what Ferguson had to say:

I’ve not got a clue (what happened), but Russell has come out and he says it was Rangers’ fault and do you know something? He’s probably right. It’s been a bit of a circus at the moment. There’s so many things where Rangers let themselves down big time. And that just looks like another one.

So if Russell Martin’s come out and said that, do you know something? I believe him. Rangers probably have been at fault, as they have been with a number of issues over the course of the last number of years, so that wouldn’t surprise me one single bit.

It seems that the Ibrox side can get nothing right when it comes to the day to day running of the club.

Between the Copland Road fiasco, the club haemorrhaging directors, messing transfers up, messing work permits up, and Clement doing his ministry of silly walks impressions, the Ibrox club is in freefall.

It is a Big Top of fun, and a source of amusement to everyone.

All of a sudden, all of the club’s traditional cheerleaders in the media are starting to turn on them.

Amidst thousands of empty seats at Ibrox, John Gilligan cuts a lone figure in the wilderness.

This is the man tasked with turning around a club that just cannot be turned around.

It is a fool’s errand.

And putting faith in the man who once danced gleefully in front of Dermot Desmond when Celtic lost the Scottish Cup semi-final to his club in 2016, seems like the ultimate fool’s errand.

But he’s a real Raynjurz man, and that’s what counts, isn’t it?

And of course not to forget, he loves the Billy Boys.

Two very important prerequisites to becoming the Ringmaster of the Ibrox Big Top o’ Fun.

Because real Raynjurz men have proven they’ve got what it takes to ensure that club is successful, haven’t they?

That’s been there for all to see over the last 12 years or so.

Everything has been tickedy-boo at Ibrox.

Personally, I hope all the real Raynjurz men flock to the circus to do their part in returning it to it’s rightful place at the pinnacle of Scottish football.

I also hope that John Gilligan relents, and gives in to Dave King returning to Ibrox.

Because while Gilligan looks like a circus Ringmaster, he’s got nothing on King when it comes to comedy gold.

So yes, I may give our board a hard time when I feel it’s warranted, which some of you think is unwarranted at times.

But I would choose our board any day over those that run the shambles in Govan.

Regardless of being conservative, even boring, they are a safe pair of hands.

They are the reason we dominate Scottish football.

I’ll take entertainment from Govan all day long, but our days of being a circus are long gone.

Our old Ringmasters, the Kelly’s and the Whites, are consigned to the deep, dark annals of Celtic history.

It took one person to chart Celtic’s course to where we find ourselves today.

Not all superheroes wear capes, but Fergus McCann was a superhero to all of us of a certain Celtic vintage.

We will never forget what he did for our club.

Thanks to Fergus, we can laugh wholeheartedly at the circus in Govan today.
