With Celtic 15 points clear, Ibrox fans demand that the board sack Clement, but he’ll be around for a while yet…

Well, if you were to believe everything that is written in the media today, Philippe Clement is now a dead man walking at Ibrox.

For the Ibrox fans at least, it seems that last night’s dour draw at Dens Park was the last straw.

They’re demanding that the board shows leadership and sacks the Belgian waffler.

Now, for us Celtic fans, we really hope that doesn’t come to pass.

To say we love the circus Clement brings to Ibrox would be an understatement.

It surpasses the Caixinha days at this point.

Were he to go, we’d miss him terribly.

He’s been a gift to Celtic, and he’ll be fondly remembered when his time at Ibrox comes to an end, which it eventually will.

But it might not be as soon as the Ibrox fans hope.

In the Record today, Robbie Copeland has the scoop on the general feeling amongst the Ibrox fans.

But this particular paragraph in his article kind of explains why it’s NOT an option:

They’ve (Sevco) won just three out of 11 away games in the league under Clement this season and many fans have seen enough. Chants of ‘Clement, get to f***’ were heard from the away end at Dens as they stuttered to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night. And now the R*****s Supporters Association have formally called for change, demanding new CEO Patrick Stewart and chairman Fraser Thornton take ‘decisive action’ – even if it means a significant financial blow, given he is under contract until 2028.

Even if it means a significant financial blow.

Well, this is a perfect example of the fantasy world that Ibrox fans live in.

Their club is broke.

It is highly unlikely they have the funding to pay Clement out of his contract.

Surely the Ibrox fans realise that if they DID have the money, they’d have paid him off by now?

I’m sure, of course, that Robbie Copeland knows that this X page has a HUGE following?

And I’m also sure that the Ibrox board is very intimidated by their demands.

Considering their size and stature.

But hey, they’ve got Copeland and the Record’s support, so they’re doing well.

No doubt, they reflect the broader Ibrox support’s views, but I doubt the Ibrox board is remotely bothered by their statement.

The reality here is that if Clement’s brutal away from hasn’t got him sacked by now, it’s unlikely it will any time soon.

My guess is the board are looking at two remaining KPI’s before they even consider letting him go.

The first one being progression in the Europa League, which looks pretty much certain, barring a catastrophe.

They seem to be able to fluke their way through that competition all the time.

And the second KPI being the Scottish Cup, the one remaining domestic trophy they can win.

Progression to the 5th round is pretty much guaranteed, considering they’re facing Highland League side, Fraserburgh.

The Ibrox board will feel there is no point in sacking Clement when the league is already gone.

They will instead want him to focus his energies on the Europa League and Scottish Cup.

They know he can get his side to perform in Europe.

With regard to the Scottish Cup, cup games are very different to league games.

In a one off game, both sides have to go for it.

Now, if Clement falls flat on his face in both of these competitions, then you would have to feel his sacking is inevitable.

But for now, the RSA’s demands of the Ibrox board are pretty much futile.

The club just cannot afford to sack him.

So they have to hope and pray he delivers on his two remaining KPI’s.

The circus will rumble on.
