The 2007/08 season was memorable in the Champions League for many reasons.
It was a campaign with nail biting results, and while we didn’t win any of our away games, we won all of our home games, which was enough to secure qualification to the knockout stages.
Just as we have a European behemoth in Bayern Munich visiting Celtic Park tonight, so too, did we have one back then.
It was, of course, a team that we faced regularly in the first decade of this century, Barcelona.
We faced them in the 03/04 Uefa Cup campaign and knocked them out after two very memorable games, which I spoke about in Sunday’s podcast.
David Marshall was the hero in the second leg, fourth round tie, saving everything Ronaldinho et al threw at us.
Let’s hope Kaspar Schmeichel can do the same for us over the two legs against Bayern Munich.
