Eyal Berkovic launches a ridiculous and offensive tirade at Celtic fans, and Irish and Scottish people, stating we have a “crazy hatred” of the Jewish people

Before I start this article fully, I want to put it on record that I am highly offended by the comments of Ex-Celtic player Eyal Berkovic, as quoted in this morning’s Daily Record.

It has to be read to be believed.

It is completely unhinged and ridiculously presumptuous.

I would challenge Berkovic to prove the allegations he has so viciously aimed at Celtic supporters, and Scottish and Irish people in general.

This outburst is coming off the back of the Green Brigade’s display last Wednesday against Israel, where they urged UEFA to show Israel the Red Card.

I did an article on this subject myself directly after as well.

Other football clubs have started to follow suit, with Cork City and Osasuna from Spain having had similar displays.

The fans of Deportivo Palestino in Chile also engaged in a “Show Israel the Red Card” display at one of their home games.

It would appear that the Green Brigade’s actions, while Celtic took on Bayern Munich, are catching on, as more and more clubs attempt to get the message across to UEFA and FIFA.

What I cannot fathom is why the Record would run with such a story as this today?

When it is highly offensive to both Scottish and Irish people.

It also comes as no shock that that gutter rag the Sun is running with this story as well.

You’d expect it from them.

Reading Eyal Berkovic’s comments, he comes across as someone who is absolutely pig ignorant, and has nothing whatsoever to back up his ridiculous claims.

Being Irish myself, I find it highly offensive that he stated we have a “crazy hatred” of the Jewish people.

I’ll get to that soon enough, but you need to see some of his comments to actually believe them:

I took down all the pictures from me at Celtic on my social media. Celtic fans identify with the Irish. Celtic has a connection with the Irish who are against the Jews, in short, they have crazy hatred towards us.

I kept saying about Robbie Keane when he was a manager here that he should leave because if he speaks for Israel he will endanger his family in Ireland and people didn’t understand why. The Irish and the Scots hate us. As a player I didn’t feel it, only at the end of my career. When they hate someone, they are bad.

I have lived in Ireland all my life, barring a few years in the U.S. in my twenties.

I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER seen or heard any displays of Antisemitism from Irish people in my lifetime.

Never.

What I have seen is solidarity with oppressed peoples.

And I’m not just taking about the Palestinians, I am also old enough to remember the marches against apartheid in South Africa back in the 80’s.

We didn’t agree with apartheid then.

We do not agree with it now.

As a nation that was oppressed for centuries, we will ALWAYS show solidarity and support to the oppressed nations of the world.

That does NOT make us Antisemitic.

The description “crazy hatred” depicts us as a race of people foaming at the mouth and venting our hatred regularly against the Jewish people.

When nothing of the sort goes on in this country.

And then to state that Robbie Keane would be putting his life in danger in Ireland if “he spoke for Israel” is patently ridiculous.

Robbie Keane is a footballing legend in Ireland.

There are plenty of people out there, including me, who disagreed with his choice of country to manage in.

But that was because of the timing involved, and what was going on in Gaza.

Many of us found it unsavoury, but that still does not make us Antisemitic.

Nor did it make any of us want to kill Robbie Keane.

Even saying that just sounds ridiculous.

Berkovic’s ramblings sound like those of a man who is completely unhinged, and has lost the plot.

But as a Celtic supporter, not just an Irishman, his attack on our support enraged me further.

Especially since it’s a complete fabrication, and everything he said is complete bullshit.

Have a look at this:

John Barnes was fired and he signed me. The fans wanted me to go with him even though I scored goals and I’m doing well, they didn’t care and they wanted me to go. I had a five-year contract. One game later, they booed me every time I touched the ball, 60,000 fans. I kept coming to get the ball and touched the ball a lot of times.

In a 2-2 game in injury time, I chipped over the goalkeeper and scored a winning goal. The entire Celtic crowd booed me and I gave them the thumbs up. That was my last game and I haven’t seen the place since.

Eyal Berkovic was a lazy player, who decided when he did and didn’t want to play.

Sometimes he could put in a good performance, but more often than not, he was anonymous in games.

Let’s put it this way, he was found out very quickly under Martin O’Neill, who eventually shipped him off to Manchester City.

We all know the ability that O’Neill had to decipher whether a player was good enough to play under him or not.

He was an amazing judge of character.

Along with Rafael Scheidt, Berkovic was one of the biggest wastes of money to don a Celtic shirt.

£5.75 million was a crazy price to pay for a player who made only 32 appearances in almost two years for the club, scoring only 9 goals.

With regard to his memory of that supposed 2-2 game where he scored the winner in injury time?

He actually scored the goal he is referring to in a 4-2 win over Kilmarnock.

It wasn’t in injury time, it was in the the 73rd minute.

And it was five games after John Barnes got the sack, Kenny Dalglish was in charge of the club at the time.

Here is what he actually said after the game:

I believe my celebrations were misinterpreted but I can assure our fans that my actions were a way of expressing my excitement.

Nope, Celtic fans didn’t misinterpret his celebrations.

We knew they were designed to offend us, and we reacted accordingly.

It seems that Berkovic has made an art out of offending people.

His latest comments are proof positive of that.

Just ask John Hartson what he thinks of him.

Hartson didn’t think much of his windpipe, Martin O’Neill didn’t think much of his attitude, and Celtic fans didn’t think much of his laziness.

I can see why he has a chip on his shoulder though.

Clearly he’s right, and the rest of the footballing world is wrong.

One thing is for sure, he doesn’t have a goddamned clue about the Irish people.

If he did, he wouldn’t have spouted the absolute bullshit he did about us.

Launching into a rant like that with nothing to back it up shows exactly the kind of character he is.

And it wasn’t Celtic standard, that’s for sure.
