Two years of racism on mute at Ibrox for European fixtures, but Celtic will be afforded no such courtesy

Last night, on the Trinity Tims Podcast, we had a pretty heated discussion when it came to the recent sanctions imposed on the Ibrox club by UEFA.

If any of you have been hiding under a rock lately, it was for the below banner displayed at Ibrox by the onion bears.

Now, if you want a proper explanation of the banner, I’d suggest you approach the onion bears for an explanation.

Failing that, read this article by my Trinity Tims colleague, James Forrest, over on the Celtic Blog.

James explains it as well as he possibly can, which is a struggle to be fair, since the banner is so incomprehensibly stupid and contradictory.

It pretty much sums up that support in a nutshell.

I said last night on the podcast that we got into a pretty heated discussion about this and of course, the fakeover.

Now, it wasn’t heated between us, it became heated when a few Ibrox trolls decided to visit their vile bigotry and racism upon us.

Their attacks idiotically did nothing other than back up exactly what we were saying about them.

All three of us, in no uncertain terms, put them in their place.

They never fail to make themselves look completely braindead when the opportunity arises for them.

It really is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Anyway, UEFA have informed them that if there is one more racist act from fans at Ibrox, they will close the Copland Road end, topping it off with a €20k fine.

As detailed in the below tweet by the Daily Record:

What it really means is that if there a single racist act at Ibrox in the next two years of European fixtures, the Copland Road will be shut.

So, in reality, the onion bears will have to play pretend for the next two years.

They will have to be on their best behaviour.

An image comes to mind of a 5 year old boy in an elevator, looking longingly at every button on the control panel.

His Mom says, “Be a really good boy now, and don’t press any of the buttons. Let Mommy get us to the floor we need to go to.”

The 5 year old tries desperately to do what his Mom tells him.

But inevitably, he gives in to his urges, loses the plot and presses every button in sight, thus resulting in the elevator shutting down, and him and his Mom waiting for maintenance to restart it.

I am talking from a place of experience when I use that analogy, believe me.

Now, just substitute the 5 year old with an onion bear desperately trying to suppress his urge to be racist.

For two years…

It ain’t gonna happen.

Just like a 5 year old ain’t gonna suppress his urge to press every button in the Goddamn elevator!

It will inevitably result in a stand closure.

The problem here is that new prospective owners won’t tolerate this kind of behaviour either.

So the onion bears, and the klanbase, are going to start feeling like their kulture and natural habitat is being attacked internally, as well as externally.

Now, as much as they’ll attempt, in vain, to be on their best behaviour for UEFA, Celtic will NOT be afforded such courtesy.

And all that bile they will have been unable to release in Europe will be saved up for us.

The realisation is starting to hit them already, though, that things are changing.

And in their eyes, it isn’t change for the good.

They are starting to feel like they are being robbed of their kulture.

When we arrive at Ibrox next month, they will release all of the pent up rage they’ll have been storing since the statements their board released on these issues in the past few days.

I’m sure they had planned to give Athletic Bilbao a very WARM reception, considering their close ties with Celtic.

But since yesterday’s statement was released, they’ll be gutted that they now have to be on their best behaviour.

Elevator and 5 year old come to mind once again.

One could go so far as to say that the next Derby game at Ibrox will be a very teachable moment for the prospective US buyers.

If the klanbase really wants this takeover pushed through, a disgusting display of racist bile and bigotry would not be an intelligent idea.

While they might, and I mean might, be able to keep the mask on and the perception of angelic behaviour for Uefa, it will certainly be ripped off for the visit of Celtic.

They just will not be able to contain themselves.

Just picture a 5 year old in the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building and you get the drift.

It will take a ‘small minority’ to start the Billy Boys.

And then, like the pied fluter of Govan, they will lead the other 47,990 to enter into a zombie like state and follow their lead.

The whole stadium will become infested with this disease, and before they know it, they’ll be up to their knees in Fenian blood, and singing lovely ditties about the Lisbon Lions.

That’s just the way it is over there.

And neither God, nor the devoutly Catholic York family are going to change that.
