The Record are in full swing with negative Celtic stories today, with Luis Palma “bombed” out of Parkhead, and Adam Virgo being “let down” by Gordon Strachan

Look, I get it, Gordon Strachan isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.’

Although the period of time he spent at Celtic was very successful, there are a lot of Celtic fans who don’t look back on it with a great deal of fondness.

I’m a bit different in that regard.

I always thought it would be very hard to fill Martin O’Neill’s shoes after he departed.

Strachan, despite a very poor start to his career at Celtic, more than filled those shoes amply.

He delivered 3 titles in a row, two Champions League knockout phases, two League Cups, and a Scottish cup.

Our comeback to win the League title when we looked dead and buried during the 2007/08 season will live long in the memory for me.

But as I said, he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Especially not Adam Virgo’s, as can be seen very clearly in the Record today.

This is the second kind of article in recent days in relation to the way Gordon Strachan treated players at Celtic.

Last week, it was Aiden McGeady, and the run ins that he had with Strachan.

Look, I’m not going to go into the whole Adam Virgo story in detail, but the Record have gone to great lengths to tell it in all it’s gory detail.

It seems that they have a team of people constantly on the look out for negative press when it comes to Celtic.

They have trans-scripted almost every bit of what Adam Virgo said about his relationship with Strachan on the Under The Cosh podcast.

I’ve read it and listened to some of what Virgo said, and yes, it’s clear he got a bit of a raw deal at Celtic.

But he wouldn’t be the first, and he sure as hell won’t be the last.

That’s nature of the beast sometimes in football.

I personally don’t remember much about Virgo.

I vaguely remember some of his performances, but I don’t remember seeing anything spectacular when he did play.

Either way, it’s an avenue of attack for the Record when it comes to Celtic.

They have also decided to bring out the violin for Luis Palma, who was apparently “bombed” out of Celtic Park.

Now, I’m not sure exactly how you bomb a player out of anywhere.

But I can tell you one thing.

I know Luis Palma was loaned out to Olympiacos simply because he just wasn’t doing the business at Celtic for Brendan Rodgers.

The Honduran international was given plenty of opportunities to show what he could do before being loaned out to the new Greek champions.

What’s even more clear is that he didn’t exactly set the world alight there either.

With only one goal and one assist provided in 10 outings with the Piraeus side.

They have decided not to take up the option to purchase him for the £3.5 million asking price set out, as Celtic look to re-coup the money they paid for the winger.

There’s a reason they don’t want to buy him, which would once again indicate they didn’t think much of him either.

So when the Record says he was “bombed” out of Celtic Park, I think it’s fair to say that Luis Palma was the one who did the bombing.

But as with everything the Record does, they always have to put a negative Celtic spin on things.

You rarely see this kind of negative press towards the Ibrox club.

It’s rare that negative stories are released about them.

I must admit, I was shocked when I found a rare gem last week in the story about Fran Sandaza.

The story I wrote about it afterwards garnered huge interest.

The Record were trying to post a story that was amusing with regard to what happened to Sandaza during his ill-fated Ibrox stint.

But all they achieved in doing was showing us one of the main reasons that club is a basket case.

Which I highlighted by pointing out that paying a player wages of £4,500 per week in the fourth tier of Scottish football was fiscal insanity.

It was enough to cover the entire weekly wage bill of an opposing Scottish League 2 first eleven at the time.

And it was that fiscal insanity that has brought them to where they find themselves today.

So, the Record can paint all the negative stories it wants about Celtic.

It will not change the fact that we are on the cusp of another treble.

But that matters not a jot.

All the focus will be on the big Ibrox Europa League adventure this week.

With 18 stories or more a day filling the sports columns of the Record.

We’ll see how they fare in the second leg against Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Bilbao.

I get the feeling that particular adventure might grind to a halt late Thursday night.

But the Record will still manage to paint it as a positive, with 18 or so more stories on the plucky Ibrox side.

Who almost defied the odds to get to a European Semi-final.

But didn’t.
