Tom English ignores the ill-fated Fakeover in his talk about revolution at Ibrox, and joins the growing ranks in the media in conceding next season’s title to Celtic

“There is little hope of success with a squad of players that have failed so dismally in domestic football.” That is Tom English’s view of the current state of affairs at Ibrox, as he pretty much conceded next season’s title to Celtic.

He talks of revolution at Ibrox, but then chooses to omit how that’s even possible.

There is little talk of the US led Fakeover in his article on BBC Sport Scotland.

In fact English believes that Barry Ferguson is now a spent force at Ibrox, and that there is no way he can possibly fix all of the problems at Ibrox.

Let’s get real here, Ferguson was never the solution to any problems over there.

But here’s what English had to say:

For the manager there was a last blast in Europe, an expression of anger post-match about two penalties he felt Rangers should have had in Bilbao, a plaintive cry on the night their season effectively ended.

Luck was not on their side in Spain. Decisions went against them. Injuries befell them. The blatant lack of quality in their starting line-up and on their bench came back to bite them.

They tried to deal with their own shortcomings one more time, but they couldn’t. Athletic wouldn’t let them.

Ferguson has emptied himself in this job, but there are not enough hours in his day or days in his week that could fix the problems he inherited. His level best was never going to be good enough.

Isn’t it ironic that Ferguson has emptied himself in the job after just two months?

And what has he achieved in the process of that emptying?

What have the fruits of his labours borne?

Not a great deal if we’re to be brutally honest.

Which I was pointing out in the article I wrote earlier today.

Ferguson was prattling on last night about “just wanting to get his club back to where it should be.”

Newsflash Barry, your club is EXACTLY where it should be.

This is the reality for a club that has no avenue available to it to cheat on an industrial scale.

The Ibrox club is never going to be returning to those days.

It cannot and will not happen.

Tom English talks of revolution, but who is it exactly that’s going to revolt?

And if they do, what is it exactly that they’re going to achieve?

For 13 years now, that club has been trading whilst insolvent.

Posting tens of millions in losses.

Yet they have not had one solitary point deducted from them by the SFA.

Yet another SPFL club is the news today after being hit with a 15 point deduction.

Hamilton Academical were hit with the penalty for “breaching league rules”.

Funny how these rules apply for every club in the SPFL, but the Ibrox side escape any kind of scrutiny, despite tens of millions in losses.

Their accounts this year are probably going to be the worst we’ve seen since they crawled from the grave of the old club back in 2012.

English makes only a couple of references to the US Fakeover, and it is really in the third person, as he states the thoughts of the Ibrox fans:

The every thought of Rangers fans now will be about the takeover and what it brings. Nothing else matters. Nothing.

English himself makes no real personal reference to it, only towards the end of his article, and it’s almost as if he’s either dismissing it out of hand, or he’s fully convinced it’s going ahead.

But one thing English gets spot on is this:

Ferguson understated it when he said that a lot of work needs to be done. It’s a mountain. A veritable Everest.

A new management team, a new recruitment infrastructure, and a bunch of new players need to be put together. Think Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Celtic and you get the picture.

A veritable Everest of debt.

A veritable steaming shit-pile of debt, in reality.

Which everybody seems quite content to ignore.

But that’s nothing new, this has always been ignored.

And no, do NOT think Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Celtic to get the picture.

Once again, English is showing his ignorance by using that comparison.

Ange Postecoglou, at least, had a decent financial base to work off.

Whoever takes the Ibrox job will not be afforded that particular luxury.

English rambles on about all the money that has been wasted at Ibrox recently on dud players, all while making references to Celtic’s player trading model.

Which the Ibrox side have never, ever, been able to emulate.

You’d think somebody might have picked up on that by now?

He references only a few players who have been failures, when in reality, it started way back in 2012 with the likes of Fran Sandaza.

And has since resulted in tens of millions lost on duds and flops.

But all of the media choose to live in blissful ignorance when it comes to this.

Just as English has decided to be blissfully ignorant of the trials and tribulations of the Fakeover.

Which has become a hell of a lot more more complex than just dotting some i’s and crossing some t’s.

As is evidenced by House Paddy’s closing paragraphs in this article:

Their European adventures have been extraordinary and freakish, but they only served to paper over the cracks. Revolution is required now.

The optimistic note is that they have, all going well, a new and impressive outfit about to take hold of the place.

From what we know, they are not the kind of soft touches that have roamed around the Ibrox corridors of power for long enough, which is just as well, for setting Rangers on the right course is going to be a herculean pursuit.

Yes Tom, they’re definitely not soft touches.

They’re playing hardball with director buyouts.

And they’re not liking what they’ve been uncovering when they’ve looked at things forensically.

If Tom English chose not to live under a rock he’d know this.

As for turning the Ibrox club around being a Herculean task?

I doubt even Hercules in his pomp would take on such a task.

Nothing can save that club from itself.

Not even the yanks.
