If the Ibrox side actually spends £50 million this summer, what does everyone think Celtic is going to do?

So, yesterday evening, Ibrox favourite Graeme Souness, was wheeled out again to present his £50 million masterplan to stop Celtic.

For about the fiftieth time.

The Record has really flogged this horse to death over the entirety of this season, and they’re still at it.

I suppose they did change it somewhat, when they said he talked about “splashing the case” rather than the cash.

And I’m pretty sure they’ll do it again before the summer is out.

It isn’t going to happen.

No amount of spin is going to change that.

But hypothetically speaking, let’s say that it did, what do the SMSM think Celtic are going to do in that scenario?

We spent £30 million last summer, albeit off the back of some big players sales.

And while we did finish with a positive net spend, we weren’t afraid to spend big on the players the manager wanted.

Do the media really think that Celtic would just stand still and watch the Ibrox side spend that kind of money and do nothing?

Souness’ theory that four decent players would turn the tide for the Ibrox side is hilarious.

For so many reasons.

So many holes can be poked in it.

Is he forgetting that the rest of the squad over there would still be shite?

Add to that, is he forgetting that right now there is a title winning squad at Celtic Park?

Which is about to be supplemented further this summer.

The current Celtic squad is only going to get better.

The current Ibrox squad is regressing.

It isn’t going to get any better.

But let’s continue to go along with Souness’ theory.

Also bear in mind that this guy was actually a football manager once, and he DID win trophies in his time as a coach.

But he was easily duped, which was typified in his time as Southampton coach when he was “conned” into signing “George Weah’s cousin” Ali Dia.

You would think Souness knows better than anyone that not every player you spend big on works out?

So what’s to say if the Ibrox side actually managed to convince four players worth £12.5 million each to come to play for them, that all four would be immediate successes?

Two could flop.

It’s a big gamble to take that all four would work out.

Brendan Rodgers was quick to point out in his press conference yesterday that some players who come up from down south think Scotland is an easy ride.

Then they get here, and find it’s not as easy as they thought it would be?

They go back down south, and play well there again, but they just weren’t suited to the Scottish game.

That could just as easily happen to one or two of Souness’ fabled £50 million four.

Reading the article in the Record, which is just a regurgitation of the same article they’ve been using all season, Souness’ whole idea is predicated on the idea Celtic would just stand still in all of this.

Which shows just how stupid he is.

Because he should know by now that Celtic don’t stand still.

And they certainly won’t stand still under Brendan Rodgers.

Setting all of that aside, he should also know that it’s a ridiculous assumption that the prospective new owners of the club would just throw £50 million at the manager, whoever that might be, to fix the squad.

After already ploughing £100 million into acquiring the club.

Which we’re consistently being told by the media is now what it’s going to cost.

This is all just more bollocks from gullible stenographers like Mark Pirie, and Scott McDermott.

How many times can you re-publish the same story?

Do they think if they keep publishing it, they’ll wish it into existence?

The whole idea is pure fantasy.

Pure fantasy being peddled by a washed up old twat like Souness.

Who has little or no skin in the game anymore.

What is not fantasy, though, is that Celtic will not stand still this summer.

We’ve just landed a 10 year mega-deal with Adidas worth over £30 million.

We banked £50 million from our Champions League exploits.

And we could have more transfer money coming in if Jeremie Frimpong moves on from Bayer Leverkusen, as expected this summer.

What does Ibrox have?

Well, I’ll just leave that to your imagination.
