Keevins seems to think that Graeme Souness would be offended by a TIFO aimed at Celtic fans with his image on it, I doubt that somehow

Hugh Keevins is definitely not a man who can read the room.

He makes assumptions about how people might feel in certain situations, but that’s all they are, assumptions.

I guess he can do that being a journalist.

Because fortunately for him, there are people out there who take everything he says as gospel.

Today, I’m going to assume he’s got it completely wrong when it comes to his article in the Sunday Mail, and the Record.

I do that a lot.

And funnily enough, my assumptions are proved right more than they’re proved wrong when it comes to Keevins.

This is the headline in his article this morning:

Do right by Graeme Souness?

Now how would they do that?

Well, Keevins, after ranting on about the fabled takeover, decided to stick his oar in when it came to last week’s TIFO at Ibrox.

You know?

The one that the media didn’t bother to condemn until the Ibrox club themselves condemned it?

In fact, if the Ibrox club hadn’t condemned it, then there would have been no faux outrage in it’s aftermath.

And Hugh Keevins certainly wouldn’t have been writing about it today.

The only reason there was condemnation of that TIFO was because the Ibrox directors were terrified it would cause the American consortium to have second thoughts when it comes to what they’re getting themselves into.

There have been many TIFOs before that one which have been as bad, if not worse than the Graeme Souness one.

None of which were condemned by that club.

All of which portray or speak of the killing of Celtic fans.

Anyone remember the Bill the Butcher TIFO?

Today, Hugh Keevins believes that the Ibrox club owe Graeme Souness an apology for last weekend’s TIFO.

I really struggled to keep a straight face when I read this:

Speaking of which, I can only imagine the sense of betrayal, embarrassment and revulsion that must have washed over Graeme when he realised his image had been stolen for use in an offensive banner unfurled by R*****s fans last Sunday.

It was identity theft of the worst kind and an awful thing to happen to a good man.

This is what I mean when I say Faux outrage.

Keevins is certainly engaging in it with that particular statement.

Knowing the Graeme Souness I know, you know, the one who only as recently as last year couldn’t bring himself to say the name of the Celtic captain Callum McGregor, I sincerely doubt he was offended in any way, shape, or form by that TIFO.

In fact, I’d go one further.

I’d say that when Souness saw that TIFO, he was probably beaming with pride.

And not trying very hard to hide it, either.

If fact, if it hadn’t been condemned by the club, I’m pretty sure Souness would have been in the media, defending it, and waxing lyrical about it.

Going on about how people are too easily offended, how it was all in good fun, and how funny it was that they used an image of him in his wild days.

Because Souness is never subtle when it comes to what he thinks of Celtic.

Keevins ought to know that by now.

Instead, he felt he should paint Souness as some sort of paragon of virtue.

Referencing two interviews he had with him, one in the eighties and the other twenty something years ago.

And of course pointing out his charitable work.

I’ve raised funds for Debra Ireland myself.

My company had the charity as one of their charity partners for five years.

EB is a heartbreaking condition, and it would bring anyone to tears, even Graeme Souness.

But it doesn’t change how he feels about Celtic.

Nor does it change how I feel about the Ibrox side either.

I sincerely doubt Graeme Souness is in any way offended by that TIFO, or his portrayal in it.

I also doubt he’s expecting an apology from the Ibrox hierarchy.

This is just pure Hugh Keevins, pouring on the faux outrage in an attempt to seem relevant.

I can also guarantee, as I pointed out earlier, that Hugh Keevins would not have been condemning that TIFO if there hadn’t been a week of condemnation preceding this morning’s article.

Nobody in the media would have condemned it, because there have been worse TIFOs than that one, and they weren’t condemned.

The Iron Maiden rip off TIFO from September 2019 being a perfect example.

That TIFO actually portrayed Eddie the Head wading through the dead bodies and blood and guts of Celtic fans, wielding a blood covered cutlass.

Which one can only assume he used to kill said Celtic fans.

I don’t recall Keevins, let alone anyone in the media, pouring on the outrage when it came to that TIFO?

So when he states that Souness must be outraged by the use of his image, and that he deserves an apology for the latest TIFO?

That is a Keevins based assumption.

Just as I’m assuming Souness isn’t in the slightest bothered by it.

At the end of the day, it’s all about perspective.

Keevins changes his to suit the narrative.

Mine remains the same, always.

And that perspective sees what Graeme Souness thinks of Celtic.

What he has always thought of Celtic.
