Well, it looks like Steven Gerrard has removed himself from the race to become the next Ibrox manager.

Keith Jackson cites a ‘lifestyle choice’ as the reasoning.

And also the fact that Gerrard couldn’t convince his missus to depart sunny climes of Bahrain in exchange for pishy wet Glasgow.

Can’t say I’d blame her for that, as that would be a pretty raw deal, all things considered.

As for Stevie G, I think there’s a bit more to it than that…

I reckon it might be more of a case that Stevie recognised his limitations, but hid behind ‘lifestyle choices’ in an attempt to preserve his oft times misplaced ego.

It appears that the glib and shameless one only just this morning fully endorsed the loveable scouser for the role.

I guess he felt he owed it to him for delivering the Covid miracle back in 2021.

Keef also said that Stevie’s decision had nothing to do with tax dodging, or anything like that.

Because you know, Stevie G was always just an honest, hard working scouser?

Who has always kept company with decent, honest scouse folk.

But here’s the clincher, and you don’t have to read between the lines to figure this one out.

Jackson then goes on to waffle about him possibly becoming Arne Slot’s number 2 at Liverpool.

Now I’m not sure that Steven Gerrard’s ego would allow him to be a number 2.

But I guess the fact he’s amassed his fortune out in Saudi Arabia, he wouldn’t require a massive salary as no. 2 at Liverpool.

Plus it might allow him to get his foot in the door there again, with a view to him becoming the Liverpool manager eventually.

You see, there’s just one problem, though?

Gerrard is just not that good a football manager.

I mean the guy couldn’t even make it in Saudi Arabia, which wouldn’t exactly be classed as a Mecca of world football, if you catch my drift?

My personal preference would have been Stevie for the Ibrox job, so I’m gutted he’s pulled out of the running.

But I’m not under any illusions as to why he pulled out.

He saw sense, and knew there was no way he could compete with Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

And of course chose to remain in the heat of Bahrain, rather than the heat of the Glasgow cauldron.

Where he would end up being further humiliated in his already stellar management career.

Wise choice Stevie.
