What is the obsession with rinse and repeat when it comes to Celtic?

Look, I get that it’s a slow news week this week.

The SMSM are looking for stories from every angle.

Hell, they even used a Celtic website as a source in the Record yesterday.

If that’s not desperation from them, then I don’t know what is.

Today, Ryan McDonald, the “Sports trend editor” at the Record is stirring the pot about Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou.

What even is a “Sports trend editor”?

In my book, it’s a tech savvy kid who understands how to trawl through everything from social media to gambling websites to create a story.

However, today, McDonald is stating they have an exclusive interview with Ramon Vega.

Where Vega is “warning Celtic about their succession planning”.

An interview that is nothing but pure speculation on what Ange Postecoglou is going to do after his departure from Spurs.

McDonald has the thrown Brendan Rodgers’ contract situation into the mix and put 2+2 together and come up with 20.

Since Rodgers hasn’t committed to a contract extension, then this leaves the door open for Ange Postecoglou to return to Celtic?

If, of course, he decided to take a 12 month sabbatical.

But nobody knows what Ange Postecoglou is going to do.

So, no matter what Ramon Vega says, it’s all pure speculation.

Nobody knows what Brendan Rodgers is going to do either.

Once again, all McDonald is doing is speculating.

In fact, McDonald states that “Silence breeds speculation”.

Exactly, and speculation breeds bollocks.

Like the suggestion that Ange Postecoglou will sit around and wait for 12 months to re-take the Celtic job.

And then he’ll sign a 3 year contract, which he’ll see out, and then Brendan Rodgers will return for a third stint.

Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.

I know I’m over-speculating here, but you catch my drift?

As a club, we give the impression that we are completely reliant on people who have been at the club before to return and do it all again.

Neil Lennon, twice.

Brendan Rodgers, twice.

And now, Ange Postecoglou to do it all again?

The media is constantly talking about us doing it with ex-players again as well.

Because we’ve done that plenty of times too.

Kieran Tierney and Felipe Jota just the latest in a long line.

The media are still harping on about a return for Kyogo, even though anyone with a modicum of sense knows that’s dead in the water.

Because this is what we do at Celtic.

Rinse and repeat.

This is the result of an old and stagnated board that’s out of ideas when it comes to how to recruit for the club.

It is highly unlikely that Ange Postecoglou will return to Celtic.

It is also probable that Brendan Rodgers will extend his contract at the club.

And even if he doesn’t, Ange Postecoglou is not going to be waiting in the wings.

This guy has just won the Europa League, he is going to have plenty of suitors who will probably be a hell of a lot more appreciative of his abilities than Tottenham and Daniel Levy.

I don’t think he’s the kind of guy who will to take a time-out from the game.

Especially after what he’s just achieved.

Would I like to see him back at Celtic?

Part of me would, yes.

But part of me also thinks it’s about time the club freshened up it’s recruitment process.

I’m happy to see Kieran Tierney returning to the club, and I’m looking forward to seeing Jota return from injury.

But we need to start thinking a bit more strategically when it comes to player and management recruitment.

Instead of always reverting back to the old reliables.

Which we seem to have been doing an awful lot lately in the recent past.

Then again, new and fresh thinking requires fresh new minds.

And I doubt we’ll be seeing any of them any time soon at Celtic.

We can dream though.
