“Hamza Igamane to Lille transfer hits roadblock over Rangers mega asking price”…And nobody saw that coming? Except the Celtic bloggers, of course!

Shocking news about Hamza Igamane has just emerged in the Record this evening.
The people in charge of Lille are not stupid after all.
In fact, they’re kind of bewildered as to how a player who cost £1.7 million a year ago can now be worth £15 million after scoring just 16 goals for a team that finished a distant second to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
I suppose to put that into context, you can understand why the opening bid for Nicolas Kuhn is £15 million?
Kuhn, as a winger in his second season at Celtic, scored 21 goals and provided a multitude of assists.
So, you can understand why Celtic rejected such a derisory opening bid.
You can also then understand why Lille are a tad confused as to how Hamza Igamane has suddenly become worth £15 million?
In fact, its all very confusing indeed.
Just yesterday in the Record, Gavin Berry was trumpeting from the rooftops that Igamane’s asking price was £20 million.
Which, of course, your humble correspondent – with no NUJ credentials whatsoever – highlighted to be a complete load of bollocks.
But not to worry.
Andrew Newport seems to have to come to his senses.
He’s realised that Gavin Berry may have lost the run of himself somewhat when it comes to Hamza Igamane.
His article this evening claims that the Lille officials put a roadblock outside the Decathlon arena.
Which read; “No Mega Asking Prices Accepted Here!”
As a result, Record Sport “understands” that Ibrox bosses are still waiting to receive an official approach.
Its good that they have an understanding of such idiosyncrasies.
Considering there was never an official approach in the first place.
Now, I get that the Yanks are still trying to get an early grasp of the old player tradin’ model, which they’ve observed Celtic has mastered.
But believe it or not, there is a bit of method in that particular madness.
A fundamental factor involved in this is that the player you’re slapping a £20 million price tag on has actually proven he’s worth said price tag.
Now, to be fair to Celtic, they don’t usually slap MEGA asking prices on players unless its actually warranted.
Mega might constitute a player who has been consistently outstanding over the course of two or three seasons.
Kind of like Matt O’Riley.
The Americans are rookies at this particular skill right now, so I guess I can forgive them not getting it right this time around.
To be fair to Andy Newport, he kind of saw that a mile off.

Unless the Light Blues’ new American owners decide to lower their price tag, it looks like Lille will take their business elsewhere.

I’m not a genius, and I’ve managed to figure that out.
Andy Newport, though, kind of hasn’t quite figured it out.

Well yeah, I’d walk away from a bar if I didn’t have the cash the barman was demanding for an overpriced Espresso Martini for my wife.

I’m done trying to figure out the logic here.
Bottom line is Lille aren’t willing to pay what the Ibrox side are asking for Hamza Igamane.

The bue noses think that because celtic get mega bucks for their experienced players who play in the champions league regularly, who are international players also and win trophies , they can ask the same for inexperienced players who win nothing.

This is what happens when you have no idea of how a good player trading model works. You don’t get what you think a players worth, you get what the buying club are prepared to pay based on their valuation of the player.

Ffs work out the difference between grey skull and snake mountain. And I’ve never watched it.
If he stays there’s a good chance he’ll actually be worth a figure closer to their valuation next year but in the meantime is agent should be asking for a hefty pay rise for the player. You can’t value him at £20m while paying him chump change but he won’t get a raise so it’s sell him at a realistic price or keep a disgruntled player and hope he’ll do his best for a club taking the piss out of him.
